NMYCA is a structured, tuition-free residential alternative high school designed to help New Mexico students ages 16–18 get back on track, earn their high school credentials or Hi-SET, and build a foundation for a successful future The New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy (located in Roswell, New Mexico) is a free 17 ½ month program that starts with a demanding 22-week quasi-military

residential phase in which cadets will live in Roswell. During the Residential Phase, we focus on the development of the whole person through training of the 8 Core Component, which are designed to instill healthy, life-long skills that have been time-proven to lead to success. In this phase, all cadets will live in recently renovated military barracks, work towards earning a HiSET, and are eligible to receive college credits in a vocational training program provided by Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. Once a cadet graduates the Residential Phase, the 12-month Post-Residential Phase begins. This phase features monthly contact with the trusted adult who has been chosen as a mentor, who helps the cadet stay on track and remain focused on their life goals. Yesterday, Cycle 50 Cadets spent the day exploring local history with a tour of the Historical Society for SouthEast New Mexico Museum. Cadets learned about the early origins of Roswell, the people who first called this area home, and the events that shaped the city into what it is today.
This visit gave Cadets a deeper understanding of the community they have been part of during their cycle, as well as the historical roots that continue to influence the region. Experiences like this help our Cadets connect with their surroundings and appreciate the stories that built the place they now know.

Thank you Historical Society for SE New Mexico for your continued support of our Cadets.

Cycle 50 Cadets took some well‑earned time to relax and celebrate as they approach the end of their cycle. This week, Cadets spent the afternoon at the ENMU‑R Pool, cooling off from the heat and enjoying a chance to unwind together.

After months of hard work, structure, and pushing themselves toward their goals, it was a great opportunity for the group to connect, have fun, and appreciate how far they’ve come. With the end of Cycle 50 just around the corner, moments like these remind us of the growth, resilience, and teamwork these Cadets have shown throughout their journey.
