SAVED.

Peter Hurd’s Self-Portrait has been fully sponsored for conservation.

Born in Roswell in 1904, Hurd became one of New Mexico’s most celebrated artists. This 1956 self-portrait was commissioned especially for the Roswell Museum and has been part of the collection for nearly 70 years.

After the flood left the painting with mud, staining, and areas of fragile, flaking paint, it now has a path forward. The full $11,928 needed for its conservation has been sponsored.

Thank you to the generous sponsor helping ensure this piece of Roswell’s story can return home—and remain here for generations to come.

Because some things are worth keeping forever.

CLOUDS — SAVED.

Another one saved.

Painted in 1948 by Beatrice Mandelman, Clouds represents an important chapter in New Mexico modernism and the artists now known as the Taos Moderns. After the flood left the painting with water staining, mud, mold, distortion, and damage to its frame, the conservation it needs is now fully funded.

Thanks to a generous sponsor, Clouds will be conserved and preserved for generations to come.

One more piece of New Mexico’s artistic story on its way back home.

POW-WOW — SAVED.

Another piece of Roswell’s story is saved.

Willard Midgette’s monumental Pow-Wow spans 26 feet across three panels and has been part of the Roswell Museum collection for nearly five decades. After the flood left the painting with mud, staining, abrasions, paint loss, and other damage, its path toward conservation is now fully funded.

The full $30,996 needed to conserve Pow-Wow has been sponsored.

Because some things are worth keeping forever.
Thank you to the generous sponsor who made this possible.

SAVED.

Another story is on its way home!

This Diné (Navajo) Doll was on display when the Roswell Museum flooded, leaving it covered in heavy silt and further fading its hand-drawn facial features. Its velvet blouse, full printed skirt, and blue beaded earrings reflect the development of Diné women’s dress through generations of cultural exchange, adaptation, and resilience.

Through POP: Preserve Our Past, the doll’s full conservation cost has now been sponsored.

Conservators will carefully clean the doll and its garments, address possible mildew spores, and reassemble the skirt—helping preserve an object that has been part of the Museum’s collection since 1974.

One more object saved. More stories are waiting.

THE FIRST ONE IS SAVED.

And with that, POP: Preserve Our Past is officially underway!

Allison’s Home Supply House has provided the initial investment to launch the Conservation Auction by fully sponsoring the conservation of Efrem S. Melik’s 1968 portrait of Robert H. Goddard.

Goddard’s groundbreaking work in Roswell helped transform the possibility of spaceflight into reality. Thanks to Allison’s, this important piece of our community’s story now has the funding needed for professional conservation.
And now, it’s your turn.

All 35 flood-affected objects are now live online. Explore their stories, place a bid toward the conservation of one that speaks to you, or choose Buy Now to fully fund an object and become its Conservation Sponsor.

Objects not fully sponsored online will continue to the Live Conservation Auction at POP on October 10, beginning at their highest online bids.

You’re not buying the artwork. You’re helping preserve it.
