Congratulations to Rudie Sheehy, one of our 2026 Young Artists! Rudie has been playing the double bass for 2 years and is passionate not just about playing the instrument, but about the history of double basses as well. His favorite subject is humanities, and he is also interested in urban planning and transportation. He has many favorite composers, including Mahler, Debussy and Richard Straus, and his favorite piece of music (among others) is Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in A Minor.

Congratulations to one of our 2026 Young Artists - Xei Sackett! Xei plays piano, and his favorite composer is Chopin because his music is expressive and emotional, but also technical in a way that brings out all the colors of the piano. He is a four-time scholarship recipient with us, and a three-time MTAC Alameda Memorial Scholarship recipient. Xei has also been awarded the 2026 Royal Conservatory of Music Reginal Gold Medal (Western Region), which goes to a single student with the highest performance score across the region. He has also been selected to perform at the Junior Bach Festival in 2026, for his fourth year. Xei really likes learning languages and has been studying Mandarin for 13 years and Spanish for four years.

Congratulations to Emerson Henry, one of our 2026 Young Artists! Emerson has been playing piano for 10 years and also plays trumpet and guitar. When not playing music, he enjoys swimming and watching football. Emerson’s favorite composer is Chopin “because of the lyricism and complexity” and his favorite piece is Chopin’s Nocturne Opus 42, No. 1. He plans to get a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance in college.

Congratulations to one of our 2026 Young Artists – Arya Dev! Arya has been playing the violin for 11 years, beginning lessons at the age of five. He is a three-time scholarship winner with is. His favorite composer is Brahms, because “he treats the soloist atypically in his violin concert as a peer in an argument, not a soloist on a pedestal.” Arya plans to “never put down my instrument in any stage of life. Regardless of profession, I want to be involved in solo and chamber/orchestra ensemble for as long as I am able to use my hands.”
