Happy Black History Month to all. I have an inspiring quote that I will be sharing with everyone. This is how the quote reads.

Harriet led so that,
Rosa could sit,
Ruby walked so that,
Kamala could run, to watch,
Ketanji rule.

"It Is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It Is our duty to win.
We must love and support one another.
We have nothing to lose but our chains".

Rest In Power

You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True Power is restraint. If words control you, that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.

A Few Examples of Solidarity between Local 26 and the LGBTQ community

Transgender Worker Protections: Local 26 made protecting trans workers a strike issue a few years ago! The Harvard Dining Hall workers put their rights on the line. WE NEED TO BE THERE NOW, UNION OR NON-UNION

For years Sylvia Sidney – was the most famous and outrageous drag queen in Boston and was a union member of local 26 and also the chief union negotiator at contract time. Hotel bosses cringed across the bargaining table when Syvia confronted them! Her picture hangs on the wall of Jacques, the oldest gay bar in Boston

In 1985 Local 26 united with the Gay Community to launch the Coors Boycott in Boston to oppose the anti-gay crusades of Coors Beer, Anita Bryant and Jery Falwell and the Moral Majority. We were given an office in the union hall to work the boycott, Thank you DOMINIC Bozzotto (RIP), Ed Childs and Steve Kirschbaum (USWA 8751, BostonSchoobusdrivers union)
Boston's Gross Drag Queen, Sylvia ...

For the past 16 years the LGBTQ community and the Hotel Workers Union have united to urge everyone to refuse lodging at union hotels that are on strike www.sleepwiththerightpeople.org. This campaign was started by Cleve Jones, the chief assistant to the late Local gay city Harvey Milk, the first openly gay councilor in the US who was assassinated in 1978

In 1982 Hotel Workers UNITE/HERE Local 2 in San Francisco was one of the first unions to enact protective contract language for gay workers!
