Camp HOPE for Kids A free weekend camp for grieving children, teenagers, and their families. Fun is the top priority at Camp HOPE.

Camp HOPE is a wonderful place in central Wisconsin where children and teenagers gather to work through the grieving process after a loved one dies. The camp gently guides the children and teenagers through the complex emotions by showing them that they are not alone. The children and teenagers learn that it is okay to laugh and play and that to do so is not disrespectful to the memory of the pers

on who died. Through playing, sharing, and being together with peers and staff who know the pain, the children and teenagers realize that the emotions they are feeling are a normal part of grief. What is happening to them happens to others everywhere, and at Camp HOPE, their pain is understood and shared.The founders of Camp HOPE are Becky and Marty Loy. They began the camp in September, 1989 in memory of their daughter, Sara Margaret.

We've been on a role with conference and event booths lately, getting the word out to more potential campers and counselors and talking about all of the important and necessary things we do. Our very own volunteer extraordinaire, Donna (unfortunately not pictured), made her way to the and conferences while our Executive Director, Maria, was on parental leave. Our fourth and final volunteer to celebrate is Rob.

Rob is a geology professor at the University of Milwaukee and has been coming to Camp forever. He began his journey with us as an adult camper with his two young children and has been coming back ever since. He is a gentle spirit, empathetic to his core, and a perfect fit for both the adult and youth campers.

"I am so grateful for what Camp HOPE has done for my life, and my reward now is to pay forward that love, encouragement, and support that helped me. I've been leading kids or adult groups for 22+ years now, and I am passionate about helping campers feel supported and 'not alone' in their grief journey. One of the most rewarding parts of counseling is the countless times I've been witness to the shared empathy and compassion among campers within hours of meeting one another!"
