At our March meeting Cathy H. shared how she started The Lift Garage, an affordable, non-profit auto repair service for people of limited means. Many of these people were homeless and couldn't get their cars fixed and couldn't get to work so they lost jobs. Having their cars fixed at a discount allowed moms and dads an opportunity to be at work and take their children to school.

MN Alpha Alpha's meeting was led by Maggie Kerin from Ronald McDonald House, and in particular the K-12 school at their Minneapolis campus. Students undergoing treatment along with their siblings may attend this school. It is one of two schools in the U.S. where one teacher and an aide work with all grade levels. Our chapter collected school supplies and young adult books for this school.

Bonnie S introduced our September speaker, Marno Simon from RAMS. Marno teaches students who exhibit communication interactive disorders. Her approach is an eclectic approach with a range of activities including cooking. Teachers have found that students relax and interact more with this food component. MN Alpha Alpha donated money so Marno could supply food for the entire school year for these teaching moments. Bonnie S.
