This past Wednesday, volunteers from Baker College in Royal Oak helped one of our IVC friends with weeding, cleaning up leaves, laying down mulch, and more!

Thank you to all who participated! The help truly made a big difference for one of our neighbors in need!

And as always, if anyone is ever looking for an opportunity for a group project, please email us at [email protected] or call 586-757-5551!

Celebrating Older Americans Month-One Story at a Time!

Lorraine is a resident of Macomb County who often misses her homeland of England and the memories of her childhood in her homeland. Our Volunteer Tammy, who was matched a visitor with Lorraine, was able to take her to visit Lake St. Claire to watch the ships pass by, so that she can be reminded of home.

Thank you for our volunteer for bringing a piece of Lorraine’s memories back into her life!

Celebrating Older Americans Month-One Story at a Time

Franceska is 90 years old. She lives alone and has no one to help her. She walks with a walker, yet is still able to maintain her home and all its chores. She learned of IVC from a priest she called for help. Franceska was crying so hard when she called our office that the staff who answered the phone could not understand her needs. She was so distraught she kept asking, “Why is God letting me live this long? I’m no good for anything anymore.” Her spirit and fight seemed to be leaving her, though she had survived two concentration camps! She stated she had no food and no way to go to the store or run errands. With her walker, she could not use any regular transportation services. IVC’s “on-call” volunteer drivers began providing her transportation for shopping and errands. Then she was matched one-on-one with one of the volunteers she met this way. Franceska and Faye hit it off like old friends. Shortly after their match, Faye was planning a trip to Germany and Freanceska was eager to tell her all about her homeland and to teach her a few words in German. Because Faye checks on her weekly, Freanceska no longer has to worry about simple transportation needs.

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers would like to give a huge thank you to our sponsor Goldkine for this weekend's Bowl-O-Rama Fundraiser! Your generosity helps us continue our mission to help older and disabled neighbors in our community to stay safe and independent at home.

The event is this Saturday, May 30th at 5:00pm! We look forward to seeing everyone at the Premier Lanes in New Baltimore, MI.

Celebrating Older Americans Month-One Story at a Time:

Rosalie is a senior citizen living alone. She is 83 years young. She recently had three abdominal surgeries in a one month period of time. Rosalie is not accustomed to being inactive. She volunteered at her church for twenty-two years, sewing aprons and other gift items to be sold for the benefit of the church. She no longer can sew because of poor eyesight. Rosalie, like many senior citizens, had to move away from her church, her neighbors and her friends. She is not familiar with her new neighbors, and is unable to drive, which makes it difficult to make new friends. She recently was widowed and suffered the death of a daughter a year ago. Her other children live a distance away and she feels they don’t have any time for her, which only intensifies her feelings of loneliness. Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers was able to match Rosalie with Virginia, who is retired, lives alone, and is a very caring, compassionate person. Virginia will visit weekly with Rosalie and occasionally provide an outing for lunch, or maybe just a ride to get Rosalie “out into the world’” which is something she misses greatly. After their first visit, our volunteer, Virginia, called the IVC staff at the office. She said that within their first few hours together, the two ladies had laughed together, cried together, and felt the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

Celebrating Older Americans Month-One Story at a Time

Please join us in celebrating Older Americans Month as we share the impact our IVC volunteers have made in the lives of our seniors and disabled adults:

Patty in Shelby Township lost her ambition to declutter and organize her home. With the help of an IVC volunteer, she has the motivation to make it look better. The volunteer comes to assist with the decluttering and organizing on a daily basis. Patty even has a new goal of making a plant room like the volunteer has in her home, which has given her new found motivation to declutter.

Thank you to our volunteer for making Patty’s world a little more organized.
