Guide Dogs for the Blind - Roseville CA, Puppy Raisers Guide Dogs for the Blind - Roseville, CA Puppy Raisers are proud to raise guide dog puppies for the largest guide dog school in North America.

Thank you for your interest in our group Roseville Guides, affiliated with Guide Dogs
for the Blind. Our goal as puppy raisers is to give puppies the socialization and basic skills needed before being professionally trained as a Guide Dog. We accomplish this by
exposing the puppies to as many different real world situations as possible. As puppy raisers, we work with our puppies to learn basic

obedience, proper house behaviors and give them the confidence needed to work as a guide. The puppy raising process begins when the dogs are eight weeks old. They come to our group from Guide Dogs for the Blind, in San Rafael, CA . The puppy will remain with their raiser until they are between 15 and 19 months. During this time the puppy becomes a part of the household; accompanying the raisers to school, work, on shopping trips or errands in the community and on many other family travels. The importance of exposing the puppies to the world they will eventually navigate with a blind person is crucial. When our dogs are recalled to the Guide Dog for the Blind campus they will then work with professional trainers and be placed with their partner. This is when the puppy raiser realizes the contribution that a Guide Dog can make in a blind
person’s life. It is this partnership that allows a blind person the freedom and independence that a guide dog can offer. There are many different needs in a Puppy Raising Group and we couldn’t do it with out each and every volunteer. We have leaders, puppy raisers, puppy sitters, fundraisers, and volunteers. Membership is open to anyone who is willing to
follow the guidelines and policies given to us by Guide Dogs For the Blind.
