Our members at Mia Minneapolis Institute of Art stand in solidarity with our colleagues who undertake the important work of keeping our institution clean and respectable for the public to appreciate. Mia does not run without them!

We are proud to have had a union contract at Mia since the 1970s. We know that every worker deserves a union and we support our colleagues in their right to a fair first contract.

🚨🚨BIG NEWS! On May Day (Friday, May 1st), at 9 a.m., janitors with SEIU Local 26 at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) will be holding a Justice for Janitors picket demanding fair wages for the janitors that keep the MIA clean.

OPEIU recently had union buttons made for members and began distributing them to some members. HealthPartners got wind of this and is saying that these buttons are a violation of their dress code and code of conduct due to political speech and could cause "customer and brand risk". This is a gross violation of Section 7 of the NLRA regarding union insignia in the work place. Please sign this petition to support our members at HealthPartners who want to spread positive messaging to their immigrant colleagues.

March is Women's history month and we would like to highlight and celebrate women in the labor movement past and present.

Today we start with "Mother Jones" or Mary Harris Jones. Mother Jones who is known as a trailblazer in the American Labor Movement. She helped coordinate strikes, and secure bans on child labor and cofounded the IWW.

One of the major of many significant roles that Mother Jones played was helping coal miners in Colorado who belonged to the Mine Workers of America strike against the Rockefeller owned Colorado Fuel and Iron company. This strike led to the Colorado Coalfield War which resulted in labor uprising and the Ludlow Massacre on April 20th, 1914 when the Colorado National Guard attacked strikers and their families.

Today we honor Mother Jones and all the Labor women who made a pathway and sacrifices for the labor movement today.

We appreciate that one of Local 12's largest employers is closing in solidarity for a Day of Truth and Freedom this Friday 1/23. Well done to our members who have organized to pressure their employer to do the right thing.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art will be closed on Friday, January 23.

We are pausing operations to recognize the weight of this moment in our community. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize a culture of mutual respect and care for our employees and people in the Twin Cities community.

Regular museum hours will resume on Saturday. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Health Partners needs to understand that our 99% ULP strike authorization is not a suggestion, not a scare tactic but a collective commitment backed by the full strength of our union. This Friday, we take that commitment public.

We are descending on the Como Clinic for an Informational Picket to show our community exactly what we are fighting for and to give HealthPartners a clear preview of what happens when workers stand united and refuse to be ignored. We have prepped signs ready, plus blank one’s for you to write your own message.

Friday, 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM at 2500 Como Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55108

The Car Picket: If the cold is too much, we will bring the heat in your car. Deck your vehicle out in purple, load up your coworkers, and join the carpool picket line to show HealthPartners our pride is unbreakable.

If you can’t make it to Como, make your voice heard at your own site. Wear Purple Friday. Create a custom picket sign and display it boldly in your windshield when you park for your shift.

Get creative! Get loud! Let every manager and every executive know: We are united, we are fed up, and we are ready to Stike if they do not take us seriously.
