Join us for International Wave of Light.

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Light a candle at 7pm your own local time in remembrance of a precious baby or babies gone too soon.

October is Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month. It is a time dedicated to honoring and remembering the lives lost due to miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of an infant. It provides an opportunity for grieving families to share their stories, raise awareness about the impact of these losses, and foster a supportive community. The month also encourages greater understanding and compassion, while advocating for improved research, support services, and resources for those affected.

Here are 10 suggestions of what to say to a mother who has lost a child for Mother’s Day. No matter when their loss occurred, their baby matters to them.

1. "I’m thinking of you today and holding you in my heart."
– A gentle reminder that she’s not alone.
2. "Your love for your child is eternal and will always matter."
– Validates her ongoing bond and grief.
3. "You are and will always be a mother."
– Affirms her identity, which loss does not erase.
4. "I can’t imagine your pain, but I’m here to listen if you want to share."
– Opens the door for connection without pressure.
5. "Your child’s life made a difference and is not forgotten."
– Offers comfort that their memory lives on.
6. "If you’d like, I’d love to hear a memory about your child."
– Honors their life and creates space for remembrance.
7. "Today can be whatever you need it to be—quiet, loud, sacred, ordinary."

Our beloved babies will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will always wonder what our lives would be like if they were here. We miss them. We long to know who they would have grown to be. Even though they are not here with us, our love for them will always remain.
