Many people are often surprised by the difficult and sometimes heartbreaking cases that we see and assist jn as a humane society . However, our mission is to help the injured, abused and neglected animals of our community . With that responsibility, we assist in very troubling and disturbing situations. Many times these cases end with a happy outcome, and sometimes they do not. Regardless, our mission is to aid in helping reduce suffering and bring health, happiness and enrichment to the animals in our care.
Buffy is one of the precious animals that we had the privilege of helping. She was found as a very young kitten, alone on a country road, eyes crusted over and swollen. After a couple vet visits, and continuous attempts by her foster to improve the health of her eyes, it was decided that to avoid continued infections and pain, both of Buffy’s eyes would need to be removed. For many, the thought of inflicting a kitten with a lifelong physical limitation of blindness, might appear cruel and inhumane. However, Buffy’s foster saw her will to live, and we all agreed that this brave kitten who exhibited such happiness, playfulness and resilience, deserved a chance to adapt to a modified life without sight. So it was decided that to avoid repeated exposure to anesthesia, Buffy would be spayed and have her eyes removed at the same time. Buffy successfully recovered from her surgeries, and we have all been amazed at her recovery! She knew the layout of her house and just within a couple of days, she was running to her food bowl and playing with her toys. We are so proud of this brave little kitten, who never let her vision become a limiting factor. The best part of this story is that her foster decided that she could not let her go, and keeping Buffy in the home that she was comfortable and familiar with was the best decision🩷 Both Buffy and her foster are happy and healthy. A true testament to what The Muskingum County Humane Society does every day! We can only continue this with your support! Look at all these gorgeous babies that are in just ONE foster home! Thank you Marticia, for being an impeccable foster who gives so much love and devotion to these kittens! For the last several
weeks, Marticia has been nursing two separate litters of kittens every 2-3 hours, 24 hours/day! No easy task for any person. Neonatal fosters are literally put to the test! Sleep deprived, constant worry and at times even heartbreak., are what they are faced with daily. The challenges our fosters face behind the scenes is gut wrenching . But they do it because they love the reward of helping these little ones in their plight to survive, and find their forever families. We are so grateful for every one of them!

Two of our sweet mama cats were adopted by an extremely kind lady! She has always had cats and lost her last cat a couple years ago. She decided it was time to adopt again. She adopted Sweet tart a month ago, and recently added Connie to complete her family. Both of these cats entered our program with their newborn kittens, and both were phenomenal mothers. Finally their babies were weaned, they were spayed and they found their new home! Both girls love their new mom, and are slowly getting used to each other🥴
A little hissing and staring across the room, is not out of the norm for cats just learning to live together. We are confident they will soon become fast friends 🩷

Queenie, now Stella was adopted and will live a beautiful life with her new mom! We are so happy for her! Stella was on her way to rescue this Friday, when her mom saw her picture, arranged to come meet her, and quickly scooped her up! The rest is history! But now Stella’s brothers and sisters have not been so lucky and will be heading to rescue Friday morning. PLEASE go to our page and see if any of our sweet cats or kittens may make a nice addition to you famiiy. All adoption fees have been reduced ❤️
