International Firefighters’ Day is a time for communities around the world to recognize and honor the sacrifices firefighters make to keep people, property, and the environment safe. It is also an opportunity to thank both current and past firefighters for their service and lasting contributions.
Today, we proudly recognize the dedicated men and women of our department who answer the call without hesitation. Our volunteer firefighters balance full-time careers, family responsibilities, and countless hours of training yet they continue to show up when our community needs them most. Their commitment, sacrifice, and courage do not go unnoticed.
You often see our firefighters in bunker gear, ready for action but today, we also want to highlight who they are beyond the uniform. They are your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members. They are ordinary people who do extraordinary things in service to others.
“The role of a firefighter in today’s society – be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defence force, aviation, motor sport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice – no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service we fight together against one common enemy – fire – no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.”
~ Lt JJ Edmondson, 1999
To all of our firefighters: thank you for your service, your resilience, and your unwavering dedication. We are truly grateful for everything you do.
