Scenes from the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo this past weekend. County Farm Bureau on the large LED screen in the Rodeo Arena during the Ranch Rodeo which was sponsored by Fort Bend County Farm Bureau. Banner on the Livestock lot fence directly across from the Show Barn. These are just part of the sponsorship package from the Fair to us.

We’re offering $500 grants to help schools establish or improve gardens or greenhouses. Aquaponic and hydroponic systems are eligible if they are used to teach students about food production.

Our Annual County Farm Bureau meeting is coming up Thursday October 8 at the Rosenberg Civic Center on TX-36 and we want Fort Bend County Farm Bureau members and their families to join us. Doors open at 5:30 pm and we will kick off the meeting at 6:00 pm with dinner from Vincek's. We want to make this Annual County Meeting informative and also be respectful of your time. There are some business items that must be voted on to comply with our by-laws, but we'll keep those to a minimum. We will have Dr. David Kerns, the preeminent authority on Pasture Mealybugs, provide an overview on what they are and how we can deal with them. If you don't know what Pasture Mealybugs are, you certainly should attend. If you want to prevent them, you definitely want to attend. If you already have them, then you probably don't need to attend now but you should come and have a good dinner. We are here to serve the farmers and ranchers of Fort Bend County.

In the never-ending quest to advocate for Agriculture in Fort Bend and adjacent counties, a group of board members from Fort Bend County and Wharton County met with U.S. Representative Troy Nehls this week. While Troy won't be our congressman next year, there are a lot of activities happening in Washington, DC the rest of the year that he can help us with. Talking to our government representatives is one of the most important activities undertaken by your county Farm Bureaus.

The hay show is back. Submit a sample and get free results. Attend the presentation on 9/26 before the Replacement Heifer Auction and find out who has the "best" hay in Fort Bend County as well as get some "free" CEUs. No matter what, everybody wins with this program.

We are meeting with as many U.S. Representatives as possible who have districts which cover any part of Fort Bend County to advocate for agriculture and discuss the issues in front of congress today that affect farmers and ranchers. Here is District 18 U.S. Representative Christian Menefee with TFB District Director Stuart Traylor and County Farm Board president John Cotterell.
