Four Fort Bend County graduating seniors were each presented with certificates for scholarships from Fort Bend County Farm Bureau at a dinner recognizing their accomplishments. The students and their families were invited to a presentation dinner at Schulze’s BBQ in Rosenberg where they met the Fort Bend County board of directors and other Texas Farm Bureau officials.

Each student received certificates for $1,200.00 for their ongoing higher education. From Needville HS, Baylee Black is attending Texas A&M to study Accounting and Kyle Stout is attending Texas A&M to study Animal Science and Poultry Science. Saige Sowa from Stephen F. Austin HS in Fort Bend ISD will attend Texas A&M to study Animal Science leading to Veterinary Medicine and Clint Kleas from Brazos HS in Brazos ISD will attend Texas State to study Construction Science and Management. Also shown in the photograph is Director and Scholarship Committee member Lois Meyer and CFB President John Cotterell.

In his remarks to the students and their families, County Farm Bureau President John Cotterell recognized their hard work and family contributions and told them they would be advocates for agriculture no matter where their educational path takes them. He hoped they would participate in collegiate Farm Bureau activities and then come back to Fort Bend County and continue supporting through the Young Farmer and Rancher program local County Farm Bureau projects.

Fort Bend County Farm Bureau President John Cotterell and Past President Ross Werlla recently traveled to Washington, D.C. as part of the Texas Farm Bureau’s National Affairs Awards Trip—an opportunity to bring the voice of local agriculture straight to national leaders. While in D.C., they met with U.S. Representative Lizzie Fletcher and staff from the offices of Representatives Troy Nehls and Sylvia Garcia to talk about the issues that matter most to our farmers and ranchers. Topics included the farm bill, the ag economy, trade, labor, water, disaster assistance, and New World screwworm concerns.

They heard from key leaders like Senator Ted Cruz and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins from Texas, as well as a number of Senate and House leaders and Ag Committee Chairmen. They also connected with American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall and Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening.

Advocating for agriculture at every level is a big part of what Farm Bureau does—and support from members right here in Fort Bend County helps make these conversations possible.
