Today is National Nonprofit Day, and we're taking a moment to celebrate what FBPFY, Inc. gets to do every day: connect youth in Fort Bend County with mentors who show up, listen, and believe in them.

None of this happens without the people behind the mission — our mentors, our staff, and every guest speaker who's taken the time to share their story with our kids. You show up for these youth, and it matters more than you know.

Today we're grateful for all of it. Here's to the work, and to everyone who makes it possible. 🧡

Our speakers Billy & Nikki Callaway used powerful pictures and videos to demonstrate how easy it is to focus on negativity instead of seeing the full picture and the potential that exists beyond our current circumstances.

The session encouraged our youth to shift their perspective, look beyond obstacles, and recognize that every decision they make has the power to shape their future. By focusing on opportunities instead of setbacks, they can create a pathway toward better choices, personal growth, and a brighter future.

Arthur Jr Medina spent 15 years in solitary confinement — a chapter of his life that could have defined him forever. Instead, it became the turning point. He shared his story of transformation with our youth today, and before he spoke, we opened with a short film called “Man Alone” that set the tone for what was coming.

The moment that stuck with everyone: Art compared where the youth are right now to a caterpillar in a cocoon. He told them that stage isn’t the end — it’s preparation. It’s up to them to do the work to break out and become who they’re meant to be.

You could hear a pin drop in that room.

Grateful to Art and his wife Sabrina for showing up and being real with our youth today. Stories like his remind us why mentorship matters.

FBPFY welcomed Kenneth Scott — former NFL athlete, Rice University professor, and founder of Leave A Blessing — to speak with our youth this week.

From growing up in poverty to playing professional football, Kenneth's journey is proof that where you start doesn't determine where you finish. And he came to make sure our youth know the same. 🙏

Art that tells a story. 🎨💛

This week FBPFY welcomed back Karen Hellstern and Suzanne Alessandri from ARTreach Texas () for another incredible Mixed Media Art session — and this one was truly special.

Using watercolors and First Nations and Native Art as their guide, our youth created their own animal inspired pieces while learning the cultural significance behind each animal. Every color, every shape, every stroke carried meaning — and our youth brought it all to life in their own unique way.

The talent and creativity in that room was something else. 💛

Thank you Karen and Suzanne for not just teaching art but using it to connect our youth to something bigger than themselves!

Our friends from United Against Human Trafficking were back with us today for another powerful session with our youth! Taylor Johnson, Stacy Carmouche, and Dani Quattrone led an interactive discussion on the different types of abuse — what it can look like, how it can show up, and the terminology around it. The group worked together to brainstorm and unpack these concepts, and the engagement was fantastic. We’re grateful for partners like UAHT who show up ready to have real, honest conversations with our youth. Can’t wait for them to come back tomorrow for round two!
