Who Are We
Leilani Chock, Tigard Oregon. I am the keynote speakers and entertainment/PR Manager. I have my associate's degree in paralegal studies. When I am not working, I enjoy volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society animal shelter. I have always had animals growing up, but over the years, I always wanted to be more active in helping animals. It wasn't until Cecil's horrific death and seeing
all the pictures that hunters post of their thrill kills that made me decide I needed to get involved and get these barbaric killings stopped. It was about a month or two after Cecil's death that I was asked if I would like to be a part of the Cecil 2016 planning committee. I really think a lot of people do not realize how cruel these hunters are being to these animals. It is my goal to educate and spread awareness, change laws and get bills passed to protect these animals from the horror that is happening to them, and to prevent animal extinction. Craig, Executive Director, Hotel Services Facilitator, and Rally Coordinator, for Cecil's Roar, Inc. 30+ yrs. experience in Project Management, Hospitality, and Executive Services. I currently reside in SC, and teach Art Therapy Classes, for emotionally troubled teens. Betty Hogan, Marketing Director, Graphics and Visual Promotion, Volunteer Coordinator. I live in South Dakota. I was an Event Planner/Florist until I retired. I have always had a love for animals, I was the girl that brought home all the strays. I have always advocated against animal abuse of cats and dogs, but when Blackfish broke, I started to really take notice of the abuse around the world. When Cecil the lion was killed, I guess you could say that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I never realized that trophy hunting of lions and other wildlife was still going on, So I became an animal activist. Joanna Wangerin, a proud member of Cecil's Roar, Inc. My responsibility for Cecil's Roar is Permit and Operations Director. I live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. I am a dedicated animal activist and advocate for animal rights. I campaign for stricter sentencing guidelines for animal abusers. I am also an Administrator for Every Sig Counts, a web page that asks for signatures from the public on petitions for those who abuse animals. Brenda Spencer, Treasuer, When I first heard about Cecil being killed and finding out Walter Palmer was from Minnesota like I am, I was outraged and embarrassed to be a Minnesotan. I've always loved animals and wildlife but I had never protested before. On July 29, 2015, there was a protest at River Bluff Dental and I went along to see what it was like. I shied away from the media and hid behind a friend. Since then I've become very vocal and even went to River Bluff alone on the day the office opened. I was on TV that night asking where Palmer was since he wasn't showing up for work. I have protested many times outside his office since then. We had a protest in August with people coming from many states and displayed flags from states and countries that were with us in spirit. When Walter Palmer went back to work in Sept. I was there and gave a speech that was several minutes long. The BBC broadcast the entire speech. I have also been interviewed on the local radio twice. Last year I was invited to help organize a rally in Washington DC to help bring awareness to trophy and canned hunting. We have since become a legal nonprofit and have our EIN number. I have and will continue to fight for animals and wildlife.
