An article published in JAAD evaluated the efficacy and safety of saturated saline immersion for treating refractory plantar warts over six months.

In this single-arm clinical trial, 17 patients were enrolled with plantar warts that failed standard treatments. The participants underwent daily 30-minute saturated saline immersion for eight weeks.

After the saturated saline immersion treatment, 98.3% of lesions cleared, and 88.2% of participants achieved complete remission at week eight compared to baseline. No recurrences occurred during the six-month follow-up.

Yesterday, the American Academy of Dermatology Association hosted its annual AADA Capitol Hill Skin Cancer Check!

In total, the event welcomed more than 120 attendees, including seven Members of Congress, among them GOP Doc Caucus Co-Chair and AAD member Rep. John Joyce, MD, FAAD (R-PA), Dave Joyce (R-OH), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).

This popular event provides a unique opportunity to offer free skin cancer checks to Members of Congress, congressional staff, and the public, while also promoting the specialty of dermatology and advocating for our sole congressional priority: Medicare physician payment reform.

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology explored the efficacy and safety of oral spironolactone for women with acne.

Overall, five randomized controlled trials consisting of 563 patients were included in the analysis. Acne severity was classified as either mild to severe, moderate to severe, severe, or not reported. The doses ranged from 25 mg to 200 mg daily.

The analysis showed a sixfold greater improvement in acne in the spironolactone group versus the placebo group (odds ratio, 6.59).

Among patients receiving spironolactone compared with those receiving placebo, nonsignificant adverse events included breast enlargement in 14.9% and 11.3% and menstrual irregularities in 18.1% and 20.4% of the groups, respectively.
