WELCOME TO PROJECT PIXIE - A NJ BASED NON-PROFIT PROVIDING MONTHLY PIXIE PACKAGES TO HOMELESS WOMEN IN LOW-INCOME CITIES THROUGHOUT THE US, STARTING WITH PHILADELPHIA, NORTHERN NJ, AND NYC! For the more than 40 million women in this country living in poverty or on the brink of it – and for whom the cost of feminine hygiene products is yet another burden on an already stretched budget – periods are
no joke. A year’s supply of tampons and pads costs upwards of $70 and is not covered by food stamps or other government assistance. For homeless women, the problem of lack of access to menstrual hygiene care is often compounded by “minimal access to safe sanitary spaces” like toilets and showers. Here in the United States, where the economic and opportunity costs of menstruation for poor women have gone relatively undocumented, the problem hides in plain sight. Project Pixie, a NJ-based non-profit, was launched in 2015 for the purpose of addressing these issues by providing monthly Pixie Packages containing an assortment of sanitary products + staple necessities to homeless and low income women in some of the poorest areas of the US - starting in Philadelphia, Northern NJ (Newark + Jersey City) & NYC. By not only partnering with shelters but by also taking it to the streets, Project Pixie will provide women with an assortment of feminine hygiene products including pads, tampons, liners, pain killers, cotton underwear, and wipes. We believe in being a good steward of your resources. Whether you consider it large or small, all gifts we receive advance our mission and will help us accomplish our 2016 goal of providing these much needed resources to 1,500 women in each of these areas - giving each one of them back a small piece of their dignity.
