Street Dr Jill is an excellent source of evidenced based strategies to address homelessness, addiction and mental illness. What is talked about in this video are the same type of problems we have in Douglas County, Oregon and the same information being shared where politicians support when people demand things that really do not work. Forced treatment is not the answer whether one is homeless or not.

This street medicine doctor is in British Columbia, Canada, however the story could be from here. This disconnect between sobriety and housing is significant in Douglas County. We can address this but we need the help of our local community medical providers. Not just addiction treatment providers, harm reduction or homeless service providers.

Although Housing First Umpqua (HFU) started out trying to get a designated street medicine team for Roseburg that could expand to the entire county, a variety of locally imposed roadblocks got in the way. We need to work on making that happen. It is something we will bring to the People’s Homeless Commission.
