Roseburg Sister Cities supports Oregon Bottle Drop. WE hope you will consider getting involved.

Greetings:

We’re celebrating Oregon’s Bottle Bill and its legacy of promoting recycling since 1971 with our 2026 Hidden Bottle Hunt, and your nonprofit could score $1,000!

We’ll be hiding 6 commemorative bottles, whose look celebrates SOLVE, founded by Governor Tom McCall, who signed the Bottle Bill into law and believed every Oregonian shared an inherent right to enjoy and take responsibility for the places where we live, work and play.

Beginning June 25, we’ll release a separate clue for each bottle’s location over a four-day period to help seekers find the bottles. Each person who finds a bottle gets to keep the bottle (it's like a trophy!) and direct a $1,000 donation to the BottleDrop Give nonprofit of their choice – which could be you!

Last year, the following nonprofits were selected by finders:
Central Coast Humane Society, Edwards Center
Furry Freight Shelter Transport
Northwest Mothers Milk Bank
Rabbit Advocates
Rogue Valley Genealogy Society
Sherwood MITCH Parent Advisory Committee

We’ve created a nonprofit social media toolkit (see link below) to help you spread the word about the Hidden Bottle Hunt to your network of supporters.

You can find additional hunt details, as well as a signup form to receive clues, on our Hidden Bottle Hunt webpage (https://bottledrop.com/hunt/)

View the Social Media Toolkit.

We hope you share this fun activity with your network, join the Hidden Bottle Hunt, and help us celebrate Oregon’s Bottle Bill!

Sincerely,

The BottleDrop Give Team

[ "Myrtle" flower connecting the bond with Roseburg ]
Myrtle tree blooming in Ayame Park. Actually, this tree was taken home by Kuniko Oyama's father from Roseburg with great care and grew it from there🌱✨
A tree was planted at this place to commemorate the "10th anniversary of the union of sister cities" in 2003, and it is still firmly rooted as a symbol of the warm friendship between both cities.
When I think that this tree is full of history and people's memories, I feel more lovely than usual☺️
Please keep an eye out if you're passing by.

My Japanese Iris are a gorgeous deep blue and in full bloom. These were given to me years ago by a dear friend who passed away and every year when they bloom, I think of her. I started with a very small clump. Over the years they have spread to cover the end of my pond.

Why Japan Flies Colorful Carp Streamers in May

In Japan, before Children’s Day (こどもの日 / Kodomo no Hi) on May 5, you can see colorful carp streamers flying in the sky.
These are called Koinobori (鯉のぼり).

1. What is Koinobori?
Koinobori (鯉のぼり) means “carp streamers.”
They are fish-shaped flags that look like carp swimming in the wind.

2. Why carp fish?
The carp fish (鯉 / Koi) is known as a strong fish that can swim against powerful water currents.
Because of this, it became a symbol of strength, courage, and success.

3. Meaning of the black carp
The black carp is called Magoi (真鯉).
Traditionally, it represents the father (お父さん / Otōsan) in the family.

4. Meaning of the red carp
The red carp is called Higoi (緋鯉).
Traditionally, it represents the mother (お母さん / Okāsan).

5. Meaning of the smaller colorful carp
The smaller carp represent the children (子供たち / Kodomotachi).
Later, many colors like blue, green, orange, and pink were added to show the children in the family.

6. What is the wish behind it?
Families fly Koinobori (鯉のぼり) with the wish that their children will grow up healthy, strong, brave, and happy.

A beautiful Japanese tradition that fills the spring sky with color, family love, and hope.
