October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month ( ) — and it's also Cybersecurity Awareness Month. 💜

Everyone deserves to be safe online and when using any kind of technology. Telling victims of abuse to "just stay offline" isn't reasonable or possible in our ever-connected world.

Tech-facilitated abuse can look like:

📍 Tracking someone's location
🗣️ Harassing someone online
📱 Using smart devices to monitor or harass
⚠️ Using AI to generate fake sexual images

While the technology may evolve, the underlying abusive behaviors often remain the same: making choices to gain power and control over another person.

At the same time – technology is power. It can be used as a lifeline for survivors in need, helping them learn about abuse, reach out for help, document what they’re experiencing, and hold abusers accountable.

NNEDV’s Safety Net team is proud to address the intersection of tech and abuse, work with tech companies, and advance "safety by design" to make technology safer for survivors and for everyone.

Did you know?

Restraining Orders are heard by a judge, at the Douglas County Courthouse Monday through Friday (except holidays). People who want to file for a restraining order need to arrive at the Douglas County Justice Building at 11:30am-12:30pm in room 302.
A Peace at Home advocate will be available there to explain the process and provide forms. Note, advocates are not able to provide legal advice, you may need assistance from an attorney and can ask about options. If you would like to speak to a Peace at Home, please stop by the office or call the crisis line 541-673-7867.

We want to welcome the newest member of Peace at Home’s Board of Directors, Nicole Bennett! We have many volunteer positions and a few new people have joined the team this month to help at shelter and answer the 24/7 Hotline.

What does Nicole have to say about volunteering?
“I’m honored to join the Peace at Home Board of Directors and be part of an organization whose mission is so meaningful to me. I’ve been in banking since 1994 and have called Douglas County my home since the fifth grade. I’m the proud mom of two grown sons, and a very proud mimi to my granddaughter. Peace at Home’s mission hits especially close to home because one of my sisters and her four children have been affected by domestic violence. That personal connection is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about supporting this organization, the individuals, and families it serves.”
