NeighborWorks Umpqua staff hosted Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)'s Keegan McChesney last week. Keegan is the Director of Housing for Rural LISC and he has worked with our team for the last several years to help make improvements on our multi-family properties.

The group toured three properties: Stagecoach Apartments in Canyonville, Myrtle Terrace Apartments in Myrtle Creek, and Princeton Court Apartments in Roseburg. Each one of these properties received new ductless heat pump upgrades through funding from LISC's Healthy Homes Initiative and Program Partners Grant Funding.

Affordable housing development is composed of a multitude of moving pieces from the early stages of a project down to the construction and the lease up-once residents are ready to move into their new homes. 🏘️

NWU’s Junior Project Manager, Monica, says, “During each phase, community and relationships are the drive behind getting the job done. Throughout my time at NeighborWorks Umpqua, I have had the opportunity to work with passionate and driven people from organizations such as Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), Housing Assistance Council (HAC), and Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS).

"Through OHCS' capacity-building programs and grants, my team and I have had the privilege of learning from industry experts that value the communities we serve.

“I’ve had hands on training on community-centered engagement, real estate finance, project management, grant writing, and so much more. These experiences have shown me that centering people creates far more than just good housing. It creates opportunity, safety, confidence, and, overall, fosters hope.”

The Oregon Multi-family Energy Program (OR-MEP) recently highlighted three energy savings project completions on their website including our Coddington Place Apartments project in the City of Coos Bay. Our contractor and partner, Umpqua Sheet Metal, installed ten ductless heat pumps last December. The project will have an annual energy savings savings of 54,000 kWh.
