Sicangu Youth Council have arrived at the 150th Battle of Greasy Grass Camp this evening and stopped to capture the moment upon their arrival. They are very honored to be here and represent the Sicangu affiliations of the battle that took place 150 years ago. We are anticipating the next few days ahead of us and are looking forward to harboring new relationships and learning more about who we are as Indigenous people and the importance of waking up our spirit. 🧡

The Sicungu Youth Council along with the Tokala Inajinyo Staff made it to Wyoming! We are on our way to the 150th Battle of Little Big Horn victory day celebration in Montana. We are excited to make connections with our relatives throughout Turtle Island and be in good prayers to honor our ancestors from 150 years ago. ❤️🖤💛🤍

As the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn is approaching, we would like to share Sicangu Youth Council’s presentation from our Canada trip. We are so proud of our Sicangu Youth Council for always stepping up, learning our history and culture and for showing the world that they are proud to be Lakota and that we are still here!

We hope everyone takes some time to learn about why this battle is so important and to remember the reason we celebrate Rosebud Fair every year. And we hope to continue to see our Oceti Sakowin come together for future events! 🤍🖤❤️💛

We want to thank Gracie McCloskey for her amazing leadership she has shown since she started working at Tokala Inajinyo as an Outreach Specialist and a Sicangu Youth Council member who built her way up to the Project Coordinator who has accomplished a lot of great things from then to now. She is an amazing role model to our youth in our community and we want to wish her the best on her next journey in life!
We are so thankful for your time and dedication you have shown many times towards this program and mainly the youth whose lives you have positively impacted! Thank you for all that you’ve done at Tokala Inajinyo Youth Leadership Mentoring Program and we wish you the best Gracie🧡

Anpetu waste! Sicangu Youth Council has made it to Canada! 🇨🇦 Today, Sicangu Youth Council had the honor of speaking at the Oceti Sakowin Language Summit at the Whitecap Dakota First Nation here in Canada. They spoke about their journeys in syc, boarding school history and its affects on Indigenous people across Turtle Island, and how the Battle of Little Bighorn is vital to our history as Lakota people.

They also spoke about how we all need to unify and come together to continue to break these cycles of colonialism and continue to fight and practice our Lakota way of life. By sharing their stories, and learning and practicing our languages we will continue to honor our ancestors while uplifting the next generations to come.

We are so proud of Ashlen, Leah and Darrian! Wopila to our relatives up north for giving us the honor of speaking today. 🤎

This morning Tokala Inajinyo/Sicangu Youth Council hosted the first 150th Battle of Little Bighorn All Nations Youth Meeting. We began with an introduction from Student Council President and SYC Member Julian Spotted Elk, followed by a Welcoming Address given by Miss Sinte Gleska University and a former SYC member Rachel Janis. Students from the Wakanyeja Tokeyahci Immersion School led us with a prayer followed by a prayer song. Afterwards, we had a guest speaker Henry Quick Bear Sr who gave a presentation about the history of the battle. To end the meeting, we played “Sweep the Tipi” led by Alexis White Hat from the Learning and Development program at Sicangu Co.

We did not have much attendees but we appreciate those who came and participated!! And wopila tanka to the students from the Wakanyeja Tokeyahci Immersion School, Miss SGU Rachel Janis, Henry Quick Bear Sr, L&D from Sicangu Co and St.Francis Indian School for helping making this event possible!!

We will be planning for another all nations youth meeting soon and we hope to see more youth and tribes at the next one! 😊
