Spring is here and May is the perfect time to sit outside, have food and beverages available, games for the kids, live music in the background, and conversation with neighbors and friends. We will see what specialty drink will find its way into Jack's Bar this year. This picnic presages all those upcoming summer gatherings, but this one is not at your house and it takes place near the end of the school year which may give some families a break. Please join us......

Howell Lewis Shay is the subject of the April lecture at the Rose Valley Museum. He was a resident of Rose Valley for nearly 50 years and was second only to Will Price in the number of homes he designed in the valley. Yet that is not his greatest achievement. Although well known as the arbiter of the final design for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Shay is best known for his city skyscrapers. Scott Laughlin, local real estate historian, will be introducing to us this highly successful architect who was part of the second wave of architects to impact Rose Valley.

In just a little over a week the Rose Valley Museum will host its first lecture of the new year.
"Adventures in Rose Valley Theater History"
Sunday, February 1, 2026, 4pm
Grace Rotzel Center, School in Rose Valley
2026 will be a big year for the Museum with the publication of the book on Rose Valley, so we are starting off by having our first event be a lecture by Peter Schmitz, Adjunct Professor at Temple University's Department of Theater, and one of the authors in our upcoming book. He will examine aspects of the artistry and history of the "Little Theatre Movement" in early 20th century Philadelphia by sharing selected readings from his recent book, "Adventures in Theater History: Philadelphia". Included will be a preview of his chapter on William L. Price and community theater production in Rose Valley.
