🌿 Making Houghton Lake More Accessible for Everyone! πŸš£β€β™€οΈπŸš£β€β™‚οΈ

We're proud to celebrate the impact of the Houghton Lake Rotary General Fund at the Roscommon County Community Foundation, which helped make three new accessible kayak launchers a reality on Houghton Lake.

This collaborative project is creating greater access to outdoor recreation for people of all ages and abilities while enhancing one of our community's greatest natural resources. It's a wonderful example of how local philanthropy and community partnerships can create lasting improvements for residents and visitors alike.

β›³πŸŒŸ The Roscommon County Community Foundation is proud to recognize Isla Schaeffer as the recipient of the Jim β€œSmitty” Smith Athletic Summer Scholarship! πŸŒŸβ›³

This summer, Isla will attend the Nike Golf Camp at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, where she will spend four days sharpening her golf skills through professional instruction focused on full swing, short game, and putting. The camp is led by collegiate coaches from Central Michigan University and Bowling Green State University and will provide Isla the opportunity to continue growing both as a golfer and teammate. πŸŒοΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™

For Isla, golf is much more than a sport β€” it is a passion that has shaped her leadership, confidence, and determination. While attending camp will help strengthen her own game, she also hopes to bring back everything she learns to continue encouraging and supporting her teammates at Roscommon High School.

Knowing there was no girls golf team at the high school prior to her arrival, Isla helped pave the way for the return of girls golf in Fall 2025. Through her leadership and dedication, she helped create an opportunity for other students to become involved in the sport she loves. During her first season, she earned a trip to the state finals at Ferris State University β€” an accomplishment she will carry with her forever. β›³πŸ‘

Isla shared that golf provides β€œthe perfect balance between an individual and a team sport,” allowing her to focus, grow, and challenge herself while building strong relationships with others.

Beyond athletics, Isla is known as an exceptional student leader. She serves as Class President and is actively involved in Student Council, consistently leading with kindness, integrity, and respect. Her teachers and coaches describe her as hardworking, dependable, compassionate, and someone who naturally motivates those around her. They praise her positive attitude, commitment to teamwork, and ability to handle every situation with class and maturity. 🌟

Whether in the classroom, on the course, or in the community, Isla leads by example and represents Roscommon with pride. Congratulations, Isla! We are excited to see all the incredible things your future holds. πŸ’«πŸ’™

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ›³πŸŒŸ The Roscommon County Community Foundation is incredibly proud to celebrate Alaina Civinskas, Mirabelle Balcom, and Isla Schaeffer as recipients of the Big Buck Open Scholarship and the Kimberly L. Mires Athletic & Music Scholarship! πŸŒŸβ›³πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

These outstanding young women exemplify dedication, perseverance, leadership, and passion both in athletics and in the classroom. Their commitment to personal growth and their teams is inspiring, and we are excited to support them as they continue pursuing their goals this summer. πŸ’™

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Alaina Civinskas will be attending HQ2 Running Camp, a program known for developing elite runners and helping athletes reach the next level. Alaina hopes the advanced training will help her achieve a sub-18 minute 5K goal. Already an accomplished athlete, she placed 8th in the Michigan Division 3 Cross Country Championship and continues to push herself year-round, often running through every kind of Michigan weather right here in Roscommon. β„οΈβ˜€οΈπŸŒ§οΈ

A straight-A student and natural leader, Alaina is known for her determination, perseverance, and high standards both on and off the course. She shared:
✨ β€œIt is my goal to be a good role model for younger athletes by showing how hard work pays off.” ✨

Her teachers and coaches describe her as thoughtful, committed, hardworking, and someone who leads by example while always standing up for what is right. πŸ‘

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Mirabelle Balcom will also be attending HQ2 Running Camp as she continues pursuing her dream of running track in college. Having participated in running for six years and track & field for five years, Mirabelle is passionate about improving not only herself but also her teammates and community. She also competes in wrestling during the winter season, showcasing her toughness and determination year-round. πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Mirabelle hopes to bring everything she learns at camp back to her team, sharing both physical training techniques and the mental strength needed to compete at a high level. She shared:
✨ β€œWith this training I know I can make a difference with my team, their running and the mental strength it takes to be a competitive runner.” ✨

Her teachers and coaches say she has an infectious energy, a strong sense of leadership, and a level of toughness that cannot be taught. She listens carefully, applies feedback immediately, and consistently sets the tone for those around her with positivity and preparation. 🌟

β›³ Isla Schaeffer will attend the Nike Golf Camp at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, where she will receive advanced instruction focused on full swing, short game, and putting from collegiate-level coaches. Isla sees this as an incredible opportunity to continue developing as both a player and teammate while stepping outside her comfort zone to meet new people and expand her skills. πŸŒοΈβ€β™€οΈ
✨ β€œGolf has been a passion of mine for a very long time. It is the perfect balance between an individual and a team sport.” ✨

In addition to athletics, Isla serves as Class President and as a member of Student Council, where she strives to lead with kindness, integrity, and respect. Her teachers and coaches describe her as a dedicated student-athlete with remarkable leadership, positivity, teamwork, and determination. They consistently praise her ability to lead by example, encourage others, and represent her school and community with integrity and class. 🌟

These three young women remind us what can happen when talent is matched with hard work, resilience, and heart. Congratulations, Alaina, Mirabelle, and Isla! We cannot wait to see all you accomplish in the future. πŸ’«πŸ‘

🎢🌟 The Roscommon County Community Foundation is proud to recognize Rowan Beltz as the recipient of the Larry Sumerix Memorial Summer Music Scholarship and the Richard & Margaret Torongo Memorial Scholarship! 🌟🎢

This summer, Rowan will attend the prestigious Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp to continue growing her passion and talent for the clarinet. 🎼🎷 Although this was only her first year in band, Rowan has already shown incredible dedication to music, spending her free time practicing and developing her skills. Band has quickly become her favorite class, and this opportunity will allow her to strengthen her musical abilities while creating lifelong memories and friendships at camp. πŸ’™

Rowan, a straight-A student at Roscommon Middle School, is the definition of hard work and determination. Beyond academics and music, she balances an impressive schedule as a year-round multi-sport athlete and active student involved in basketball, wrestling, theater, travel softball, Battle of the Books, little league softball, and soccer. ⚽πŸ₯ŽπŸ€πŸ“š

When asked about her many activities, Rowan shared:
✨ β€œI love to be involved and I love working hard. I do my best in everything I do.” ✨

Her teachers describe her as respectful, kind, motivated, and a positive role model among her peers. They believe she has an incredibly bright future ahead as she continues her musical journey into 6th grade and beyond. πŸŽ΅πŸ‘

Congratulations, Rowan! Your dedication, passion, and work ethic inspire us all, and we cannot wait to see all you accomplish both on and off the stage. πŸ’«πŸŽΆ

πŸŽ“ Our Scholarship Celebration continued on May 18th as we were honored to present academic scholarships to several students who were unable to attend our Scholarship Awards Dinner due to prior commitments. While they may have missed the main event, we were grateful for the opportunity to still celebrate their accomplishments in a more personal setting alongside donors, our Board of Trustees, and supporters.

One of the most meaningful parts of our scholarship program is creating opportunities for donors and students to connect. These moments allow students to share their goals and dreams while giving donors the chance to see firsthand the impact of their generosity. It is a powerful reminder that scholarships are about so much more than financial support; they are about encouragement, belief, and investing in the future of our community.

This year, the Roscommon County Community Foundation awarded more than $230,000 in scholarships to local students pursuing higher education, skilled trades, and career training opportunities. These scholarships represent the compassion, generosity, and commitment of donors who believe in supporting the next generation of leaders.

To all of our donors, volunteers, families, and community supporters:

THANK YOU for helping make these life-changing opportunities possible!

The future is bright because of your investment in our students.
