The second proposal all Michiganders will see on their ballot concerns campaign donations.

A Yes vote on Proposal 2 would prohibit regulated utilities and companies with large state contracts from making contributions to campaigns; and require political communications/advertising (including on the internet) reveal those who donate or pay for the advertising. Proponents say the proposal is needed to limit the political influence of large companies and big money.

A No vote would allow campaign financing to continue as is. Opponents say the proposal is a violation of freedom of speech and would restrict political giving.

If voters approve Proposal 2, known as the “money out of politics” proposal, certain organizations and individuals would be limited in funding political campaigns, and regulations would apply to other types of political communications.

One of the two statewide proposals on the ballot is Proposal 1, asking if voters want to open the Michigan constitution for review and revision. This proposal appears on the ballot every 16 years.
A Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) can take several years to complete, will cost taxpayers an estimated $80 million, and the revised constitution would need to be approved by voters.

A Yes vote means the process begins to review and perhaps rewrite parts or all of the state constitution.

A No vote means the current constitution stays in place, with potential changes made through individual amendments.

This is a controversial issue at this time, and there is bipartisan support for a No vote: https://www.michiganpublic.org/politics-government/2026-09-02/political-adversaries-join-forces-urge-michiganders-to-vote-no-on-state-constitutional-convention
