Roscoe Free Library

Roscoe Free Library Roscoe Free Library and Highland Ave., which was donated by a local benefactor in 1979.

The Roscoe Free Library was chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1921, at which time it was little more than a small book-lending and reading group which operated out of a member's home. Since then it has occupied several sites, including a basement room in the Roscoe Central School, and currently occupies the building, on the corner of Maple St. The Roscoe Free Library is a member

of the Ramapo Catskill Library System and offers the full range of services provided by the System. These services include an online catalog, interlibrary loan and delivery, electronic reference services, FAX, copy machine, homebound delivery, local newspaper on microfilm (1894-1942) and Internet access.

Hi everyone, two things:
1st. Are there any quilt groups around? We have an old quilt that needs mending and a home. There's also some material left from when the library had a monthly quilt group hosted by the late Betty Goetschius. Let me know in the next week or so if you would like to have some of the material or the quilt.

2nd: I wrote an article for the Democrat's library corner at the beginning of December. I did sign it in several places. The editor liked it, but unfortunately when the article was passed down to another area, the signature line was cut off, and the story was printed under the name of Livingston Manor's lovely director, Peggy. I was saddened, as I had spent a lot of time writing about how much I have loved this library. They did apologize but sadly, the damage was sort of done. I have been told that there's cake this Saturday at the library around 2:30ish for an hour or so. Please stop in & say "hi"and you can see the story and the author.I will reiterate the words that finished the article...

I have been given an awesome gift of a fifteen year journey into the wonderful and magical world of a library. I have had a wonderful time! Joyce

The ducks and I have been reviewing the weather reports for tomorrow's race. The river is already up, and now there are supposed to be thunderstorms during the day. Rather than take a chance with the safety of the folks going into the river, we have decided to postpone the race. The ducks will let everyone know the new date...and we all thank you for your understanding!

I've just heard from the Super Racing Ducks! They want to watch the parade on September 9th because they love the Fire Departments! They plan on cheering every marcher, and every engine and truck! So they agreed to race the next day, Sunday, September 10, at 2pm. They hope you'll be there for the great parade on Saturday and their fantastic race in the river on Sunday!

Oh My, I have just heard from the ducks! Their permit to race got sent to The Amazon River instead of the Beaverkill! They have had to postpone the river race until September 9th at 2. Please join us that day and also watch the Sullivan County Volunteer Firefighter's Parade! with all those

I wanted to add one other bit of news...On July 1st, I will have completed 15 years as Director of this fantastic library. But I'm aging, and have decided to retire at the end of this yea while I still have all my marbles. I will continue to be the Town of Rockland Historian, and an EMT on the Roscoe & Rockland Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

Hi Everyone, I'm not sure the post about the summer reading program actually hit the pages. We are having a summer reading program for the smaller kids, hosted by Samantha Stone. It will be on Tuesday & Thursday from 1 - 3, and it will start on July 6th. The age group is 4 - 7, and the program will be a story, a small craft, & cookies & juice. Please call the library to sign up...607-498-5574.

Tomorrow, May 1st, is the Roscoe Free Library's budget vote. Please come out and vote yes for our library, anytime from 12 - 8. ( Please remember that this is not the school tax. However, you must be in the school district.) We are asking for a small increase which will increase your levy approximately $0.4 cents more per $1,000 of your levy. I hope to see you tomorrow!
