✨This week we feature a unique event in the history of Johnson Park; the very beginning in 1938. The “Open House” Dedication featured a Dedication Address from Washington State Governor Clarence D. Martin (pictured). The local community provided the best of the best entertainment with the local band, singers, and chorus. 🎶🎤We are only a few short years away from the centennial celebration for Johnson Park.

Would you happen to have a photo of 📷 K.W. Elder, Dewitt Barr, or Mayme Johnson? We would love to feature the visionaries who brought together 5 small school districts to Consolidated School District No. 104. 🏫 The 5 small districts were Grays River, Rosburg/Seal River, Altoona, Deep River, and Eden Valley (GRADE). Robert “Bobby” Larson came up with the acronym.

🇺🇸 Throwback Thursday + July 4th, 2026 🇺🇸

As America celebrates 250 years, we’re taking a look back at Grays River Elementary School and the Golden Bear Class of ’55. 🐻💛

Pictured is the 8th grade class of 1955 with their teacher, Ralph McGough. Ralph served our country as a Pharmacist’s Mate in the Navy, stationed in San Diego, after studying pre-med at the University of Washington. We are grateful for his service — and grateful for all who have served. 🇺🇸

We are also thankful for Ralph’s enthusiasm for teaching and his dedication to passing on knowledge to the next generation. That legacy continued through one of his students pictured here, Allen Wainamo, who later became the science teacher at Rosburg Middle School (Name changed in 1984) and inspired many students who went on to do great things in life.

Johnson Park is proud to remember the teachers, students, veterans, and community members who helped shape our history. ❤️🤍💙

We had a great turnout at this event and appreciated the Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services. West Wahkiakum Farmers Market had a booth as well as the fire department and others. We look forward to another event in the future.
