Ohio Burn Ban in Effect!

The ban covers yard waste, leaves, brush, trash, and debris—even when using a proper burn barrel.

🔥Why It Exists:
Fall brings dry leaves, dead grass, and windy daytime conditions that allow small sparks to quickly turn into dangerous wildfires.

Let's Keep OHIO Beautiful!

Does anyone remember the Blizzard of 1977?❄️

It was one of the coldest months in Ohio history. With persistent subzero temps and lake effect snow, Portage County was frozen! But our firefighters stayed committed and helped those in need!

January 1975, EFD was anxiously awaiting the last piece of equipment to start providing emergency dispatch. We had a team of 4-5 dispatchers who took the call for help from their home.

They received the call, dispatched the call and set off the fire siren.

Each dispatcher then would close the radio transmission with their dispatch number: E-1 and so forth.

We were so grateful for our dispatchers and always being ready! Our fire department would also like to thank our current dispatchers, their dedication and compassion to our residents in time of need plus giving life saving information via the phone has proved time and time again that they are true first responders as well!

Edinburg's 1st Firefighters!

Our history dates back to March 1943, when 18 firefighters began to fashion parts of trucks into a "fire wagon"

It was a town effort to collect scrap, women banned together and hosted banquets which community groups packed! They soon raised $3,800 to purchase a 500 gallon pumper, 450 feet of hose, discharge guns, axes and ladders!

Have you ever driven by the fire department and noticed a siren up top?

Let's kick off this new Facebook series with a little history behind that siren!

Long before our Firefighters had pagers or the new improved Active 9-1-1, they had a siren! The siren would sound summoning them to the fire department. It could be heard throughout our community and by farmers out in the fields. The siren would sound every Saturday at Noon to make sure it was properly functioning and would sound one time around. When a call for emergency response would come in, the siren would sound three times around.

Just a quick little piece of EFD History!

Stay tuned for pictures of our apparatus through the years and personnel!

September 11, 2001, remains forever etched in our hearts and in the history of the fire service.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the 2,977 precious lives lost, including the 343 brave firefighters, 9 paramedics, 71 law enforcement officers, and 55 military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We honor the extraordinary courage of the first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation, driven by an unwavering dedication to save others. Their sacrifice defines the true meaning of duty, valor, and brotherhood.

To the families who carry the quiet weight of loss every day, to the survivors, and to all who continue to bear the physical and emotional scars of that day: our community stands with you.

We will never forget their courage. We will never forget their sacrifice. We will always answer the call.

Never Forget.
