Our deepest sympathy to the Hargett family. David "Rick" Hargett served our township proudly for 26 years as a firefighter and then as a lieutenant.

David R. "Rick" Hargett, 61, passed away Wednesday August 12, 2026 at the Arbors at Minerva. On March 6, 1965, Rick was born in Ravenna, Ohio to Richard C. and Mona Rae (Kehres) Hargett. He has lived in Minerva the past 3 and 1/2 years and was formerly from Edinburg. He served on the Edinburg Fire Department for 26 years and was a Lieutenant for several of those years. Survivors include his wife of almost 40 years Alice L. (Curtis) Hargett whom he married August 30, 1986, his mother Mona Rae Hargett and sister Diane R. Hargett-Austin. He was preceded in death by his father Richard. In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Did you know...?
The first portable defibrillator was invented in Belfast, Northern Ireland, by Dr. Frank Pantridge, in 1965. Powered by car batteries, it weighed a 150 pounds!

1970s: The first truly automated external defibrillator (AED) was introduced—much smaller, lighter, and far more portable.

1980s–1990s: EMS departments across the country began equipping ambulances with AEDs as standard equipment.

Today, EMS units carry advanced 12-lead cardiac monitors. These lifesavers can monitor heart rhythms, deliver targeted electrical shocks, and continuously track blood pressure and oxygen levels.

Our Edinburg Park is equipped with two AEDs for public use—one mounted on the outside of the concession building and one located inside. Take a moment to spot them the next time you visit. Knowing where an AED is located can save a life!
