The Thompson Cemetery

The Thompson Cemetery This page is for descendants of John Thompson and Winifred Brickey Thompson to connect and be involve Nancy Taylor, Mrs Salley Westbrook, and Mrs. Peggy Friend.

Thompson Cemetery, also Known as Doyel Cemetery, is located in Barrow / Roodhouse, Illinois. John Thompson and his wife, Winifred Brickey Thompson, arrived in Greene county, Illinois in the fall of 1818. His family was one of the first to settle north of Apple Creek. John Thompson was a revolutionary soldier and was with Washington at Yorktown when the British surrendered. He had four sons and thr

ee daughters: James, Thomas, William, John, Mrs. The daughters were all married when they came to Illinois. The homestead at Barrow remained in the Thompson family until 1915 when it was sold by Isaac Thompson to Oren Doyel. This little family plot has been kept up by the descendants of this courageous family of pioneers. Our goal is to reach as many descendants as possible so we can maintain this cemetery in a way that honors our ancestors. We will be conducting a fundraiser and hope to raise money for the continued care and maintenance of the grounds and and for projects that address the broken headstones, gate and fence. All those with a connection to this cemetery are welcome to join us! We will post our progress and have information regarding upcoming projects.
