Dear Options Community,
June is LGBTQ+ Pride month. The first Pride parade took place in New York City as gay activists commemorated the events of the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Since the first Pride celebration almost sixty years ago, the q***r and trans rights movement has evolved into a political and cultural force that has fought for equality for all people.
PRIDE Month celebrates LGBTQ+ culture, achievements, and activism. Through these efforts, the LGBTQ+ community and its allies aim to increase awareness of ongoing issues of inequality as well as commemorate the lives lost to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS continues to disproportionately affect members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially LGBTQ+ communities of color, cisgender Black men, Hispanic/Latino gay and bisexual men, transgender women, and Black women.
Options has been a provider of HIV/AIDS services since 1994 and is proud to partner with the LGBTQ+ community on the path to ENDING THE EPIDEMIC!
Options is proud to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ employees, program participants, and community members in celebration of PRIDE Month.
Inequity harms mental health. LGBTQ+ individuals experience mental health struggles at higher rates than their straight and cisgender peers. Mental health challenges among the LGBTQ+ community are primarily due to individuals facing stigma, discrimination, and bias in many forms.
This month and every month, we are your allies, and we are here to support you. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
