Valentina's world was flipped upside down one word: leukemia. She spent many days in and out of hospitals, undergoing chemotherapy and blood transfusions. She was isolated, afraid and lonely.

But her wish helped bring her smile back. Her mother, Ambar, said her wish for a swimming pool has erased some of the sadness from that time. "Valentina sees her pool as a reminder of her strength and not as a sign of cancer," she said. "The pool wish has made her love her home, her family, swimming and her life for being a kid and having fun a lot more."

A wish helps kids like Valentina smile again, and brings a piece of their childhood back to them. Find out how you can help: wish.org/suffolk/ways-help-us ☀️💙

DJ Troublemaker is not only wish kid Milo’s DJ persona – it’s a part of who he is, a 13-year-old who loves pulling pranks on friends and family. Despite facing many obstacles stemming from fighting End Stage Kidney Disease and being blind, Milo has big dreams and loves to make everyone around him laugh.

Milo has a love for software development. He enjoys learning new ways to make technology more accessible and seeks to improve others’ lives with the tech he dreams to create. His career goal? To become a software developer for HIMSS, the IT company that built his wish – a new braille computer.

“My computer has given me a sense of independence and after using two different HIMSS computer models, I believe I know what is needed to make them better for people like me,” Milo said.

Milo has plans to create an app focused on improving kiosk technology to make it more user-friendly and accessible for all. But in his free time, Milo hopes to focus his attention on producing music, like DJ Mustard, and is looking forward to getting creative with his wish computer.

DJ Troublemaker was “ON THE SCENE” (his signature tagline) to help us close out this summer with the perfect playlist. 🎧🎶 Listen to his specially curated “Troublemaker Tunes” on Spotify and support dreaming big: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6gn2WhEry7ObTjRS9lsGvG?si=1cg3XF2EQi28fXUzK_Ut4g

Ismael experienced many challenges, even before the trauma of his cancer diagnosis. Disengaged and defiant, he began missing chemo treatments. His doctors were worried he wouldn’t survive.

Things improved when Ismael was introduced to Make-A-Wish. Even simply mulling over the idea of his wish made him more compliant with treatment, but still not completely.

Everything changed when he decided on a female blue-nose, pit bull puppy. She was worth fighting for.

From that moment, Ismael was a “model patient.” Focused on his future, he agreed to do whatever he needed to do to get his puppy. His oncologist says that emotionally, he’s another kid; sharing his feelings more and communicating more.

Lisa Smith, Director of Child Life & Parenting Education at SUNY Downstate Medical Center where Ismael was treated is clear about the impact of a wish. “Wishes give our patients something to look forward to. It makes them feel special and gives them hope,” she said. “Wishing is a part of childhood – and Make-A-Wish makes it real!”

In fact, 9 out of 10 medical providers, say a wish increases compliance with treatment for kids like Ismael.

Olivia was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, a rare form of bone marrow failure. She needed a bone marrow transplant, but along with it came chemotherapy and the loss of her hair.

She was crushed by the idea of losing it, but before she did, she got to dye it her favorite "color," rainbow!

Olivia's wish came to her in the hospital - a rainbow playhouse filled with her favorite things. Designing it gave her something to think about instead of her treatment.

“You don’t understand what an impact it makes until you experience it,” her mom said. “It was hard in the hospital. Just being able to talk about (the playhouse), dream about it, for her it was a really good escape from everything else that was going on.”

Olivia's "Rainbowtastic Playhouse" is just as vibrant as she is, and it gives her a place to escape, express herself and simply play. After so much struggle, it gave her a piece of her childhood back, and brightened up her days.

You can help another child like Olivia find brighter days - donate today 🌈 : https://bit.ly/3dFdvEL

Sometimes you need a little vitamin sea! Did you know that 100% of medical professionals report that the wish experience improves a
child’s – and their own – emotional well-being? A wish works in tandem with medical treatment to help kids heal from the stress caused by their illness. It gives them a break to simply be a kid again, to experience joy. ☀️🌊😎

“Some moms count surgeries. I don't have the luxury of being one of those moms.” -Chaney, Wish Mom

From the time Keira was a baby, surgeons and therapists have worked just to shift her legs so she can sit in a wheelchair. Born with a rare and severe musculosketal disease, her muscles are extremely weak and her joints can neither fully bend or straighten.

Keira experiences the outside world mostly from her window, but she and her mom started to think of her wish possibilities by identifying what brings her joy… the feel of the sun on her face, the motion of trees waving in a storm, but the real joy comes when the birds visit their feeder. “It’s very calming to her, to just be near the birds,” her mom said.

For her wish, she wished to turn her backyard into a sanctuary - a safe space to explore in her wheelchair, swing side-to-side, listen to the wind chimes, and most importantly draw in the birds with a bath and feeders.

As a single mom with two adopted daughters, Chaney focuses so much on care, she doesn’t have as much time to plan unique experiences and joy-filled moments. “This is invaluable for her to come out here, to breathe fresh air, and to do something different – something she loves,” said Chaney.

Keira’s quality of life has changed because of supporters like you. Read more about her wish come true: https://bit.ly/3QMeKjU
