With summer winding down and summer break officially coming to an end, we want to recognize those staff who put in countless hours to ensure our individuals were well taken care of and got to enjoy their break through hands on learning activities, adventures, (management's favorite as judges) weekly cook-offs, and, most importantly, memories made. We hope the 2026-2027 school year is safe, exciting, and kind to everyone.

Located at 1 Blue Street behind the new South Branch Elementary, Potomac Center has a great assortment of beautiful lights and top notch displays.

Zero tag, zero concern state review. There seems to be a trend. 🤔

Congratulations to our ICF Campus program for yet another fantastic review.

We also want to take time to recognize Washington Street Group Home for their flawless review earlier this year.

This now means all five ICF houses went through the year with zero concerns or tags, a very impressive result and something each person should be proud of. And, we would be remiss to not also thank some unsung heroes for their part in these reviews. From the nursing department handling the medical needs of the individuals, maintenance making sure the physical property is in tip top shape, and administration handling behind the scenes work, we are blessed to have such hardworking, compassionate people and the individuals and Center as a whole are better off with each and every one of you being here.

Last week, Potomac Center held one of its most important meetings of the year, the DSP of the Year awards. Our nominees for the year were Jessica Fanelli and Cynthia Gelow. Common themes in nominations for both ladies included dependability, cooperation, teamwork, and most importantly, the utmost care, respect, and compassion for the individuals.

Cynthia was our runner-up for the year. She has been with the Center since Spring of 2016. She currently works in Rick's House in our ICF Campus program.

The winner for the 2025 year was Jessica. Jessica is a returning employee, beginning her most recent stint in December 2024. She currently works at Washington Street Group Home in our ICF adult program.

Congratulations to both Jessica and Cynthia on their deserved recognition. The Center is better off with both of you here.

As always, we also want to thank all of our employees for their continued effort, dedication, and hard work to make the Center a little bit better, each and every day.

Another great review for Birch Lane Group Home. We want to thank all staff and managers involved that brought us a zero citation, zero concern review. The Center and clients are lucky to have all of you and we thank you for all of your hard work.

Last week, Potomac Center held its quarterly staff meeting and we would like to take a moment to recognize those that won awards as nominated by their peers and co-workers.

Non-regular Staff of the Quarter was awarded to Tasha Shoemaker. Tasha is the Center's longest tenured substitute employee at 13 years.

Rising Star, given to staff with less than one-year experience with the company that have shown tremendous promise, went to Alex Leonard and Dinora "Jessie" Turcios.

Most Dependable was awarded to Kayla Rinker and Dave Landis. Kayla is a Residential Manager for night shift in our ICF program and Dave is a member of our maintenance department with 36 years of experience.

Most Cooperative was awarded to Destiny Lewis and Ashley Vane. Both ladies have shown the ability to work in any house with any client.

And, finally, Staff of the Quarter was awarded to Madison Harding and Laura Dotson. Madison is a Residential Manager in Gleman House and her peers described her as "reliable and versatile" and able to work with any client. Laura is our new head of nursing and has been a welcomed addition to the management team and has promoted teamwork and positivity between nursing and the ICF program.

Congratulations to all winners and those nominated. Potomac Center would not be what it is without your dedication and hard work.

There has been a lot of new followers on here lately so we wanted to take a moment to tell everyone a little bit about our agency and why they should consider Potomac Center when choosing an agency to foster/open their home with!

We have an office in Moorefield and Romney but serve Grant, Hardy, Pendleton, Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley, Mineral, Tucker, Randolph, Lewis, and Upshur. We have been serving the community for 30+ years!

Potomac Center is a small agency and because of this we have several benefits!

•WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER MORE PERSONALIZED SUPPORT/ATTENTION TO EACH FOSTER FAMILY.

Smaller caseloads allow caseworkers to dedicate more time to each family and child, fostering stronger relationships and ensuring more individualized care and attention.

Easier access to agency points of contact and individual caseworkers facilitates smoother communication and faster responses to questions or concerns. Foster parents are less likely to feel like just "a number" and more like part of a supportive team within a smaller agency structure.

•POTOMAC CENTER FOCUSES ON MATCHING CHILDREN WITH FAMILIES.

Small agencies are able to take a more comprehensive approach when matching foster children with families, considering a broader range of factors beyond technical placement rules. They can invest more time in understanding each child's unique circumstances and needs, leading to more suitable placements.

The whole state of WV is in desperate need of foster homes for children of all ages. We have children staying in hotels because foster homes and shelters are full. It is truly heartbreaking! Please consider opening up your home to foster children during a time that they need someone the most!

Last week, Potomac Center held its quarterly staff awards and anniversaries ceremony to recognize staff tenure and honor those voted on for various awards by their peers.

Our Non-Regular of the Quarter award went to Tatiana Torres, a staff who recently left full-time status for other opportunities but still finds time to work with the clients.

Rising Star, an award for newer employees who have shown a lot of promise and put their best efforts forward was awarded to Jessica Fanelli and Ashley Vane.

Most Cooperative is awarded to staff members who will do anything asked of them with a smile, whether it be working other shifts or programs. These awards went to Roman Torres, Dave Beckman and Olivia Barnes.

Most Dependable is for staff who managers can count on to show up and get the job done the right way. These staff were Erin Albert, Dawn Finzel, and Bethany Deck.

Our final and most prestigious award presented was for Staff Person of the Quarter. This is someone who exemplifies all of the aforementioned qualities and more. This was given to Cindy Gelow. Cindy is in her 9th year with the Center and we have been better for it.

Congratulations to all winners and others nominated by their peers. And as always, thank you to all staff members for their role in ensuring the individuals receive the best care possible.
