When children enter foster care, they often arrive with very few personal belongings.

A recent Community Foundation grant helped The Bloom Closet purchase new underwear and socks for youth entering foster care—meeting a basic but critical need during a difficult transition.

Through personal shopping appointments, children can select clothing and essentials that fit their needs and style. So far in 2026, The Bloom Closet has served more than 527 foster children and distributed over 11,900 items.

Community impact sometimes starts with something as simple as ensuring a child has the basics.

The Community Foundation for Greater Rome is proud to announce $50,000 in grants awarded yesterday through the South Rome Alliance Fund. Since 2023, more than $200,000 has been distributed from this fund to directly support the South Rome community.

These grants support grassroots nonprofits serving children and youth throughout the summer months—helping provide opportunities for learning, enrichment, stability, mentorship, meals, and community connection.

Thank you to the South Rome Alliance for its continued commitment to investing in the next generation and strengthening the South Rome community.

In strong communities, organizations work together to remove barriers that too often go unseen.

Through support from a recent Community Foundation grant, Cancer Navigators has expanded practical, local support for individuals undergoing cancer treatment across our community.

Since November, they have:
– Provided more than 5,100 bottles of nutritional support
– Distributed nearly $10,000 in gas assistance to make it to appointments
– Facilitated 73 counseling sessions
– Launched a new wig program for patients in need

These services address more than medical needs. They help ensure patients can get to treatment, maintain stability, and access support with dignity during difficult seasons of life.

This is the value of investing in strong community-based organizations that understand local needs and respond in tangible ways.

One of the advantages of working through the Community Foundation is our deep, local understanding of this community and its needs.

Today, we had the opportunity to meet with a group of local subject matter experts, sponsored by the Rome Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, for a thoughtful conversation on poverty in Rome and Floyd County.

These conversations help inform how resources are directed by grounding decisions in real experiences, trusted relationships, and a shared commitment to strengthening our community.

If you’re interested in learning more about how local knowledge shapes effective giving, we’d welcome the conversation.

During our fall grant cycle, Restoration Rome was awarded a grant from the Spiegelberg Legacy Fund to support families at risk of entering foster care.

Through targeted outreach and coordinated case management, vulnerable families are being reached—and more than two-thirds are connecting with multiple service providers.

The goal is simple: intervene early, reduce escalation, and keep families together. To date, the program has seen a 0% recidivism rate.

The Community Foundation is proud to invest in partners addressing root causes and strengthening the systems that support our community.

We are proud to recognize the 2026 recipients of the MSP 125th Anniversary Scholarship.

The Michael D. McRae Scholarship was awarded to Fred Johnson of Rome High School.

“Ultimately, I want to pursue a degree in political science because I genuinely care about other people. I believe that true leaders don't lead by power, but by taking responsibility. I want to use my knowledge and voice to speak out for those who do not have access to resources.”

The Virginia Barrow Harman Scholarship was awarded to Eva Poyner of Model High School.

“Through my work-based learning experience, I have seen the meaningful impact attorneys can have in helping people navigate difficult situations. Seeing the satisfaction that comes from using the law to assist others and pursue justice has reinforced my motivation to one day become an attorney.”

These students represent the next generation of leaders—grounded in purpose and committed to serving others.

We are grateful to McRae, Smith, Peek for their partnership in investing in future leaders across Floyd and Polk Counties.

Wednesday is Tax Day.

For many, it’s also a reminder that charitable giving can be a meaningful part of financial planning—not just at year-end, but throughout the year.

Donor-advised funds and other tools can help align generosity with your long-term strategy.

We’re available as a local resource for you and your financial advisors when you are ready to have a conversation.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and we are committed locally with a grant from the Greater Rome Impact Fund supporting this important work.

Through Harbor House’s SAFE program, 42 classes across five Floyd County schools have already been reached—equipping an estimated 650 students with the tools to recognize abuse and identify trusted adults.

Additional schools will be served this spring, expanding the program’s reach even further.

This is what proactive investment in our community looks like.
