This week, Chobani sat down with community members and business leaders to provide an update on its dairy processing plant. During the meeting, Chobani’s leadership team, including Kevin Burns, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Nishant Roy, Chief Communications and Impact Officer, stood beside Oneida County Executive Tony Picente and City of Rome Mayor Jeff Lanigan to address community leaders directly about the state of the project and what to expect in the future.

The message was clear: Chobani is coming to Rome, and the project continues to move forward every day. Construction on the facility is expected to begin between spring 2027 and summer 2028, marking an important step for one of the region’s most anticipated economic development projects. The facility will be completed in three phases and is projected to bring more than the originally planned 1,000 jobs to the site, creating a significant opportunity for Rome, Oneida County, and the broader Mohawk Valley.

These are exciting times for Rome and the Mohawk Valley. EDGE remains committed to supporting Chobani and all our partners as we continue to grow together. Awards of up to $6 million may be available for companies that can rapidly scale operations and deliver measurable impacts.

This week, we’re celebrating Zoe, our summer intern from Fordham University, where she is studying finance. As her internship with Mohawk Valley EDGE comes to a close, we’re grateful for the energy, curiosity, and perspective she brought to our team. We asked Zoe to reflect on her experience this summer, here’s what she had to say.

“Hi! My name is Zoe, and I’ve had the opportunity to intern with Mohawk Valley EDGE this summer. During my internship, I gained valuable hands-on experience and learned from an incredible group of mentors. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of economic development and the significant impact it has on the Mohawk Valley region and its communities.

After completing my internship, I plan to finish my senior year at Fordham University, earn my degree in finance, and pursue a career in the field. I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to building on the knowledge and experience I have gained here as I begin the next chapter of my career.”

Frank DuRoss is a seasoned entrepreneur, investor, and executive leader with more than 40 years of experience founding, growing, and successfully scaling high-growth enterprises. His work spans commercial services, venture incubation, professional sports franchise management, historic downtown redevelopment, hospitality operations, and large-scale commercial real estate initiatives across the Mohawk Valley region.

Known for connecting business growth with regional revitalization, DuRoss has used professional sports and entertainment infrastructure as a catalyst for major urban redevelopment projects. The 2026 Leading EDGE Awards will take place on Wednesday, October 7th, at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

Since their inception in 1998, the Leading EDGE Awards have recognized businesses throughout the Mohawk Valley that demonstrate leadership within their industries and contribute to the continued growth of our regional economy. Over the past two decades, we have honored a diverse range of companies and organizations, both as award recipients and as valued attendees.

In addition to the Leading EDGE Awards, we present the Christopher Destito Award each year to an individual who has made a lasting impact on the community through their chosen field and has contributed meaningfully to the region’s overall success.
