Last week GA Rivers expert Joe Cook provided a fascinating talk about how the uses and protections for our rivers have changed over the decades. He even gave us the background on where the term "40 acres and a mule" came from. We also celebrated our newest Paul Harris Society member, Doug Walker, with a special presentation by Rotary District 6910's Paul Harris Society chair, Rick Parker. Other Paul Harris honorees included Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman and Matt Maslanka (plus 1) and Al Hodge and Doug Walker (plus 2).

Scott Bell is head of external relations for Qcells, the NW GA manufacturer of solar panels with plants in Dalton and Cartersville. He provided insight into the amazing energy being created here in the USA (Hanwa of South Korea is the parent company). We also inducted our newest member: Dee Dee Printup of LGE for region. A great day of learning and fellowship.

Last week, Rotarians Randy Sumner and Matt Levin both got their Paul Harris plus award pins. Randy is designated plus 5, and Matt plus three. Our newest member is Russell Parry, who moved to Rome last year from Florida.

We celebrated our Terriffic Students from the Berry College Middle and Elementary Schools, Evelyn Pullen & Linley Nazione.

We collected socks and underwear for our service project for Boys & Girls clubs. We heard from the Open Path Center's Sara Jones, Jasmine Arold, and Shawnta Greene.

And we heard a wonderful presentation from our Georgia Rotary Student Program GRSP, Elvira Batra, who has been at Berry College this past year. From Sweden, Elvira has enjoyed learning about American life with her host family, led by Rotary member Kate Sibery Daggett.

Finally, our resident singer Harry Wise worked with Al and Cheryl Hodge and Leanne Hand Cook to create a custom rendition of the Elvira song with lyrics just for our Elvira from Sweden. Harry and the entire Rotary group serenaded Elvira to send her home smiling.
