What a beautiful week of love and community at Rome Community Kitchen! We served delicious meals, enjoyed wonderful time with our family from Rome First Methodist Church, welcomed some new volunteers from the community, opened 4 days for showers and laundry services at our Community Care Center, and had a great time with our guests! The Kitchen truly is a special place and I am grateful to be a part of such a loving team!

Happy August, Everyone! It’s going to be an amazing month at the Kitchen! We will be able to distribute Weekend Bags to our food insecure neighbors for the entire month of August thanks to the money raised at Feeding Hearts Fest!!! These teenagers and their friends brought their bands together and put on a benefit show that allows for an entire month of Weekend Bags! This is a clip from one of the performances at Feeding Hearts Fest (I will share more throughout the week as fb only allows one video per post).

A special thanks to our student volunteer and friend, Brandon Turbyfill, and the Church at Rome band for hosting and coordinating this amazing event!

Y’all!!!! Feeding Hearts Fest raised approximately $2500 on Saturday night for our Weekend Bags program!!! Brandon Turbyfill, a rising senior at Pepperell High School, decided to get about 10 local bands (mainly teenagers) together to do a benefit concert for Rome Community Kitchen, and it was completely amazing!!! Over 200 people came to hear local music and to pitch in their dollars to help feed their neighbors! My heart was so filled with joy and gratitude to see young people using their talents to glorify God and to feed his people! It was the most beautiful event! Stay tuned for videos of a few of the performances. You’ll be blessed for sure!

Also, if you’d like to join the teenagers in their giving to our Weekend Bag program, please scan the QR code below or give online at www.romecommunitykitchen.org

Some days are just so great! Today, these men took over the kitchen and could not have done a better job! They made breakfast for lunch, encouraged each other, lifted the spirits of our guests, and honestly brought so much joy and hope to my heart! As the only female present to witness their hard work and contagious optimism, let me just say, these men brought the LOVE to the kitchen today! First Presbyterian Church - your men ROCK! Mr. Willie - you’re amazing! And Jon, Trae and Kevin - we couldn’t do it without you! We are so grateful for ALL of the guys who share their gifts with us at Rome Community Kitchen each week!

Hey Friends! Because of a very generous grant gifted to us from Atrium Health Floyd Polk Foundation, we have been able to send “Weekend Bags” home with our guests every Friday afternoon so that they have nutritious and delicious foods to sustain them through the weekend. We were able to budget that grant so that the money lasted 8 MONTHS!!! What a miracle! However, now we’ve come to the end of the 8 months. We’d love to continue to supply weekend bags to our guests. We already have a few partners who have begun to donate food items and money towards this program. If you’re interested in helping us continue this program, here is a list of items that we include in the The Weeknd bags. And, as always, we accept monetary donations as well. Thank you so much for your support and generosity! So many neighbors are fed every single day because of you!
