The Philip S. McDonald Police Benevolent Association is saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of former Ithaca PBA President, Lt. Thomas Condzella.

During his time as PBA President, Thomas Condzella led their membership through one of the most tumultuous and difficult situations a police department could face. He was able to lead their membership through a proposed disbandment, and come out victorious on the other side. His actions were noble and are an inspiration to PBAs across the state.

Our condolences go out to all affected by his untimely passing. God bless him, his family, and the IPBA family.

As we welcome the New Year, the Philip S. McDonald Police Benevolent Association extends our sincere wishes for a safe, healthy, and prosperous year ahead to all our members and to our law enforcement brothers and sisters everywhere. Your dedication, resilience, and service—often under difficult and demanding circumstances—do not go unnoticed.

We remain proud of the commitment our officers show every day to the City of Rome. That commitment goes beyond answering calls for service; it means building trust, showing up with professionalism, and working to ensure our neighborhoods remain safe places for families, businesses, and future generations to thrive.

As we move forward into the year ahead, our focus remains clear: protecting public safety, supporting one another, and strengthening our department so it can continue to grow and meet the needs of our community. Even during times of important discussion and transition, our officers remain steadfast in their mission and united in service.

To our members, your families, and our fellow law enforcement professionals—stay safe, look out for one another, and know that your work truly matters. Happy New Year.

Congratulations to Officer Crever on his well deserved recognition!

Congratulations to this month's Ryan Crever, a School Resource Officer at Rome Free Academy!

Crever, who has been in his role at RFA for four years in addition to his 12 years of dedicated service as a Rome Police Officer, was nominated for the great connection he has established with students and staff.

“Being a School Resource Officer at RFA has given me the opportunity to build genuine relationships with students,” Crever said. “I enjoy getting to know them, earning their trust, and being someone they feel comfortable talking to; whether they need advice, support, or just someone to listen. Watching those connections grow over time and knowing I can be a positive, steady presence in their lives is what makes the role such a rewarding path.”

The members of the Philip S. McDonald PBA, representing the Rome Police Officers, extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters of the Rochester Police Department following the senseless overnight shooting that injured three police officers.

This unprovoked act of violence against those who have sworn to protect their community is both disturbing and unacceptable. No officer should ever be targeted simply for wearing the uniform and answering the call to serve.

We strongly condemn this cowardly act and stand in solidarity with the wounded officers, their families, and the entire Rochester PD family during this difficult time.

We wish the injured officers a full and speedy recovery and remind them that they are not alone—law enforcement across the nation stands with Rochester.

“A hero never dies until the last time their name is spoken. Continue to remember and honor them, and they will live on forever.”

This was a beautiful way to remember our fallen brother, Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen. We will always remember his sacrifice, and this will be a reminder for generations to come.
