A brief apology to those people hoping to get a helmet in Albion this evening. Due to the thunderstorms that did and still may roll through, tonight's event has been canceled. I know it says rain or shine, but for safety, lightening is a bit more than we are willing to endure.

Please join us in two week in Ligonier or three weeks in Rome City.

Happy Mother's Day to all those wonderful women who always tell their children to go outside and play. Who say you should get more exercise. Who advise us to stop and smell the flowers. And who always wanted us to be safe.

So, in honor of those mother's, and especially if you're a mother yourself, you should get out on the trail. And to be safe, make sure to wear a helmet.

If you don't have a helmet, no worries. It is that time of year when the Noble County Health Department, Activate Noble County, Parkview Noble, the YMCA, and Noble Trails will be traveling around the county, sharing the excitement of cycling, and giving away bicycle helmets FOR FREE for both children and adults. So, moms, get your child a helmet to keep them safe. And don't forget one yourself to set a good example. (Dad too!)

So, we hope to see you at one of upcoming events.

One more day! Yes, the Fishing Line 5k Run / Walk is Saturday, April 25, 2026.

If you have already signed up, make sure to set your alarm for a 7:30 registration and 9:00 race time. If you haven't registered, no worries. Just stop by Gene Stratton Porter and register in person.

Your $35 registration fee will help us continue to improve the trail. In fact, tomorrow, you can see our current work to bypass CR 900 N. Our great support, Dave Desper is looking forward to the trail! (Thank for the photos, Dave.)

Your registration fee also gets you a nice looking tee shirt celebrating America250 IN Noble. # Visit Noble County .

The weather seems to be set for a great run or walk. We hope to see you there!

Looking outside this week makes one doubt whether this winter will ever end. Blowing snow and 17 degrees doesn't say springtime, especially considering the winter we've had.

But, I will remind you that last weekend, it was a beautiful 73 degrees. So I am staying optimistic, and I'm looking forward to warmer weather.

With that mindset, I am proud to announce that the registration for the 2026 Fishing Line 5k on April 25, 2026 is open. Visit www.NobleTrails.org to register.

But there is more that we need you to do. In celebration of America's 250th birthday, we want to show our appreciation for all this country offers us. So, we are excited to be part of America 250 IN Noble this year. For that, our goal this year is to have 250 participants!

Yes, 250 participants. That IS a big goal. And we can only do that if you help us spread the word. You need to forward this word along to anybody and everybody to help us reach this lofty goal.

And for this year's birthday-celebrating early registration fee of $25 per adult, you will get what I think is our coolest 5k shirt ever. And kids 17 and under are free with an adult registration. (Early registration ends on April 11, and registration fees increase to $35.)

Ok, can I be serious for a moment? I know that many of you are thinking that you don't know how the weather will be, and you don't want to register now if it might be cold. You aren't sure what you are doing that day. So you are going to wait, and you'll stop by the event on the morning of the race if it all turns out OK. Yes, some of you are thinking that.

I'm going to ask you here, don't do that. Register now. www.NobleTrails.org

Why register now? First, this event is our primary direct interaction with our supporters all year. We love to see and hear how much our trail makes a difference in your physical and mental well being. And while we rarely come out directly and ask for your financial help, we really need your financial support to make the Fishing Line Trail what it is.

For some of you, $25 is a significant sacrifice. We thank you if you make that contribution to us, but we understand if this has too much of an impact on your budget. We still hope to see you out on the trail this summer. But for many others, giving $25 is just a choice. We hope that you think Noble Trails and the Fishing Line Trail are worth it. Especially with a free tee shirt thrown in!

The second reason to register now? We both know that when that Saturday morning comes, you'll be toasty warm in bed, and you won't want to get out of bed that morning to come see us. Pre-registering not only incentivises you to come out, it also helps us plan ahead by letting us know how many people to expect and adjust our preparations accordingly.

I hope I have explained how much we appreciate you, and how much we count on you. And whether or not you decide to participate this year, we hope that you will help us get our message out. And we hope that you will smile and say hi when you see our volunteers out working on the trail. We always appreciate that type of encouragement as well.

I hope to see each of you register for our race. With your help, we can reach 250 people for America 250.

Thank you,
Scott, at Noble Trails

*BURN NOTICE*

As part of our annual prairie maintenance, we will be burning the back 1/3 of our prairie. This section includes land behind the Sower House Shoppe and Tea Room to Hilltop Drive. The burn will be occurring in the coming weeks and we'll have a short notice before it occurs. This burn will be performed by Blue Heron Ministries, A Land Trust so you'll see people on ATVs and in fire gear around the property leading up to the fire. If you have questions please reach out. We're happy to answer any questions about this practice.

Even though it is still cold, INDOT says that it is time to start construction season. What? Already?

Yep. Starting next week, INDOT will begin work on the State Road 9 bridge over Sylvan Lake. The work will close one lane of traffic, and vehicles will be controlled with a temporary traffic signal.

Trail access will be maintained with a detour through the construction zone. During one phase, pedestrians will be directed across the street to the west side. The crossings will be part of the traffic signal activated by pushing the signal button.

PLEASE NOTE: The detour width will only be about 4 to 5 feet wide. Bikes with trailers and recumbant trikes should be aware of their width. Also watch for oncoming bikes, as you might have to take turns.

So, please be aware approaching the area. Watch for signs, and please obey their direction.

Also keep an eye out for the construction activities. Make sure that the workers are aware that you are there instead of trying to sneak through. The safest way to proceed is to establish eye contact. Make sure they see you! We want everyone to stay safe.

We look forward to having a 10-ft wide trail across the bridge when this is all done, replacing the narrow sidewalk with a tall curb drop. So while this is temporarily inconvenient, it is worth it in the long run.

Please keep in mind that during the winter, Noble Trails does not have an organized method of clearing the trail. You are welcome to use the trails in any condition, but it is at your own risk.

Hello, trail friends. This isn't a post that we thought we would ever need to write. But, we have had a concern expressed to us that we think warrants a reminder.

We know all of you use the trails in part to appreciate their serene beauty. But, it seems that some people have been discard toilet paper and tissues beside the trail. First, we do appreciate you cleaning up after your pets. However, we remind everyone that you should bring bags to take your used tissues out with you. If, worst case, you've forgotten a baggie, at a minimum, please cover the tissue with leaves or other natural material, allowing it to become compost without damaging the natural appearance of the trail.

All of our volunteers work hard to pick up trash, clear brush, and make the trails look nice. We do this for you! So, we ask in return that you do your part in helping us keep it clean. Thank you.

This weather is terrible for paving, but it's still suitable for clearing! Crews have been busy clearing the newest section of trail, which connects the trail near Gene Stratton porter with the former Limberlost Golf Course.
