Remember The Music is an annual roots music festival benefiting Alzheimer’s disease research organized by Betty’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. She and our Grandpa were square dance champions many years ago in Ohio. Music’s undeniable influence in all our lives is also extremely powerful when it comes to those suffering from Alzheimer's disease; by shifting moods, reducing stres
s, stimulating memories, and facilitating cognitive function. Grandma lived with Alzheimer’s for 16 years before finally giving in September, 2012. Since inception in 2008, our grassroots (100% volunteer) fundraising efforts have resulted in over $90,000 in raised funds for Alzheimer’s Disease research. All proceeds we raise are directly donated to two of the top Alzheimer's Research facilities in the country; UCI Mind of the University of California Irvine and the Lou Ruvo Center in Las Vegas, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic. We also donate to an organization called Music & Memory, which help provide music as therapy to patients suffering with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and the numbers are increasing. Breast & Prostate Cancer related deaths are down 10% each year, heart disease deaths are down 13% each year, while Alzheimer's disease deaths are up 66%. One of the leading causes of death is getting the smallest support from government funding for research. Cancer receives 6 billion each year while Alzheimer's disease receives just $450 million. This is why our foundation is dedicated to raising funds for research. This is especially the case when it comes to individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Music can shift moods, reduce stress, stimulate memories, and facilitate cognitive function. This connection to music that our Grandmother had throughout her life, the power of its presence in her memory was far beyond the memory of the most basic every day functions, this is our inspiration for the Remember The Music benefit concert, to raise funds for research to cure this heartbreaking disease. Our concerts have been a huge success and embody a wonderful night of good people of and good music. Our past concerts have had Grammy Award winner, Shelby Lynne, and many other talented artists and groups such as Patrick Park, Brian Wright, The Dustbowl Revival, The Show Ponies, Brother Sal & The Devil May Care, Sam Lewis, Pawn Shop Kings, Keaton Simons, Stewboss, Patrolled by Radar, The Smart Brothers, The Far West, Eddie Berman & Iron Rails, Jessie Payo, The Lonely Wild, Sam Outlaw, Victoria Bailey, Honey County, Gethen Jenkins and many other wonderful talents. We are so thankful for each and every musician, artist, vendor, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter of our efforts, whether by physically attending a show, donating online, or by encouraging our agenda in heart and mind throughout the past 11 years of fundraising for a cure in hope's of eliminating Alzheimer's disease.
