Remember The Music

Remember The Music Benefit Concert to support Alzheimer's Disease Research We are inspired by our Grandmother, Betty, who loved music and dancing. Music is powerful.

Remember The Music is an annual roots music festival benefiting Alzheimer’s disease research organized by Betty’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. She and our Grandpa were square dance champions many years ago in Ohio. Music’s undeniable influence in all our lives is also extremely powerful when it comes to those suffering from Alzheimer's disease; by shifting moods, reducing stres

s, stimulating memories, and facilitating cognitive function. Grandma lived with Alzheimer’s for 16 years before finally giving in September, 2012. Since inception in 2008, our grassroots (100% volunteer) fundraising efforts have resulted in over $90,000 in raised funds for Alzheimer’s Disease research. All proceeds we raise are directly donated to two of the top Alzheimer's Research facilities in the country; UCI Mind of the University of California Irvine and the Lou Ruvo Center in Las Vegas, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic. We also donate to an organization called Music & Memory, which help provide music as therapy to patients suffering with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and the numbers are increasing. Breast & Prostate Cancer related deaths are down 10% each year, heart disease deaths are down 13% each year, while Alzheimer's disease deaths are up 66%. One of the leading causes of death is getting the smallest support from government funding for research. Cancer receives 6 billion each year while Alzheimer's disease receives just $450 million. This is why our foundation is dedicated to raising funds for research. This is especially the case when it comes to individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Music can shift moods, reduce stress, stimulate memories, and facilitate cognitive function. This connection to music that our Grandmother had throughout her life, the power of its presence in her memory was far beyond the memory of the most basic every day functions, this is our inspiration for the Remember The Music benefit concert, to raise funds for research to cure this heartbreaking disease. Our concerts have been a huge success and embody a wonderful night of good people of and good music. Our past concerts have had Grammy Award winner, Shelby Lynne, and many other talented artists and groups such as Patrick Park, Brian Wright, The Dustbowl Revival, The Show Ponies, Brother Sal & The Devil May Care, Sam Lewis, Pawn Shop Kings, Keaton Simons, Stewboss, Patrolled by Radar, The Smart Brothers, The Far West, Eddie Berman & Iron Rails, Jessie Payo, The Lonely Wild, Sam Outlaw, Victoria Bailey, Honey County, Gethen Jenkins and many other wonderful talents. We are so thankful for each and every musician, artist, vendor, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter of our efforts, whether by physically attending a show, donating online, or by encouraging our agenda in heart and mind throughout the past 11 years of fundraising for a cure in hope's of eliminating Alzheimer's disease.

Betty's Foundation for the Elimination of Alzheimer's Disease proudly supported our dear partners UCI MIND at their annual December to Remember Gala last night! This community means so much to us and they continue to forge the path of research for treatment and the ultimate goal of a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. It was wonderful to see our fundraising and awareness peers HFC- founded by and - as the guests of honor for their continued commitment to this cause and partnership with our research friends. Thanks as always to Dr. Joshua Grill, , , and so many others on the team for a wonderful evening and opportunity to sponsor. We are grateful for this for your work and friendship! 💜

Mother Teresa once said; “It’s not about how much we give, it’s about how much love we put into giving.” Whether you want to contribute to your favorite charity, volunteer, or just lend a helping hand to someone or something this season, every act contributes to a better world to live in. We are a tax deductible 501c3 nonprofit that donates to Alzheimer’s research in hopes for a cure. We didn’t host our annual Remember the Music benefit this year due to our grassroots volunteers (aka family) needed to support other priorities, however we are poised to make next year’s 15th anniversary festival extra special! If you would like to contribute to our cause, link in bio at www.bettysfoundation.org. DM if any questions!

It might not be but we think any ol’ regular Tuesday is a good day to give to 💜. “Think of your favorite song. Where does it take you? What does it stir up? Music evokes emotions and memories, which is why musical intervention has therapeutic benefits for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Musical interventions have been shown to decrease a patient’s agitation and improve communication and caregiver relationships. Alzheimer’s disease spreads through the brain in a pattern. It typically starts in the areas of the brain responsible for memory and ends in the brainstem, which has a critical role in heart and lung control and swallowing. The long-term memory of music remains intact until the very late stages of disease progression, right before the disease attacks the brainstem. It is currently unknown why Alzheimer’s disease affects this area last. The theory behind musical intervention is that activating this part of the brain can help stimulate other parts of the brain to improve mood and social engagement in people with dementia” - Grandma Betty engaged with music into the late stages of her 16 year battle with Alzheimer’s, which is where the idea of was born - to raise funds to support Alzheimer’s disease research through the infinite gift of music. Memories of Grandma Betty will always be wrapped around her loving heart and stubborn ways. Images of a woman who was as comfortable behind the wheel of a two ton grain truck as she was in the kitchen or out on the town, and especially on the dance floor. A smile on her face, that was rarely missing, showed the world her love of life and family. She was strong willed in a gentle way — she had to be in order to endure the ups and downs of a life of farming. Our foundation is in her name to eliminate the Alzheimer’s that took her from us too soon, diagnosed at 68, she passed 10 years ago this month. She would have been 94 years old today. Happy Birthday Grandma, I can imagine you’re tickled pink with what your family are doing with your inspiration! 💜✨

This is your Betty’s Foundation team! We’ve been doing this together since 2008. We worked our butts off to pull off 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Not only just physically laboring for 3 days straight of set-up, game day, and tear down, but several months of coordinating logistics & operations details, equipment, entertainment, vendors, silent auction items, sponsors, networking, promotions, and so on. We each carry a heavy load, but we can never do it alone - we couldn’t have done this without our community and volunteers !! Thank you so incredibly much to all who helped us, lift, carry, supervise, load, unload, put up, tear down, wipe and swipe, unpack and pack again. And to those who donated in kind, who participated, who support our cause time and again and those who are new to our network. We’re so grateful 💜 Please check out our page for posts and updates!
