💜 Today, we remember. We learn. And we choose compassion.

International Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity to remember the lives lost to overdose while recognizing that substance use disorder continues to affect people and families throughout our community.

At The Rolla Mission, we believe a person should never be defined by the hardest chapter of their life. We have the privilege of knowing people beyond their hardest moments. We see their humor, their hopes, their setbacks, their progress and the people who love them. Substance use disorder may be part of someone’s story, but it is never the entirety of who they are.

Awareness matters. Knowing how to respond matters. Connecting someone to help matters. And treating people with dignity and compassion matters.
Everyone Matters

Today, we remember those we've lost, stand with those who love them, and hold hope for those still writing their story. 💜

This weekend, we said goodbye to someone who has been part of The Rolla Mission for the past seven years.

Lauren has served our Mission in so many ways, not only as a dedicated volunteer, but also as a member of our Board of Directors. She has been here through years of growth and change, showing up week after week and becoming part of the family that makes this place what it is.

When we asked Lauren to reflect on her time with us, she shared this:

"My time at The Rolla Mission has been such a blessing. Over the past seven years, I have seen this place change and develop in incredible ways. I have met countless people who have touched my life for the better. The incredible dedication I see each week from the staff, patrons, and volunteers inspires me. Knowing I can do something as simple as making breakfast or being there to listen to someone, and make such an impact on them in return means so much to me."

Lauren, those “simple” things were never small to us.

Thank you for the breakfasts. Thank you for listening. Thank you for serving. Thank you for helping lead our organization. And most of all, thank you for giving seven years of your time and your heart to The Rolla Mission and the people who have walked through our doors.

You will always be part of our Mission family, and we are so grateful you chose to be part of ours. 💙

We love you, Lauren, and we’ll miss you!

Todd is home!

When Todd came to The Rolla Mission a few months ago, his life had changed in a way he never expected. After losing both of his parents, whom he had lived with his entire life, Todd suddenly found himself having to figure out what came next.

And there was a lot to figure out.

Living independently meant learning things that were completely new to him budgeting, managing expenses, saving money and all of the everyday responsibilities that come with having a place of your own.

It wasn't always easy. There were frustrating days and things that took time to learn.

But Todd kept going.

Little by little, he got closer to the goal he had been working toward.

Today, Todd got the keys to his own place. ❤️

This is a huge accomplishment, and we couldn't be more proud of him.

Geddy is officially moved in!!

“I’m ready to take a nap and relax. It’s a nice feeling to have my own place. I appreciate everything The Mission did to help me get a job and find this place.” ~Geddy

Geddy came to The Mission in May and got straight to work. A local company reached out to us looking for employees and asked us to send anyone we thought would be a great fit for their position. We sent Geddy and he was hired on the spot. He used his first check to pay for his deposit and first month’s rent.

When he said he was ready for a fresh start he truly meant it and worked hard for it.

Congrats Geddy!!

We want to start sharing more of what happens inside Rise & Rebuild. 💙

Each month, our participants work on different skills designed to help them move toward greater stability and independence, and we want to bring you along as they do.

This month, the focus is financial literacy.

From creating a realistic budget to building savings and understanding emergency funds, participants are spending time learning practical skills they can carry with them long after they leave the program.

And we have some pretty great July numbers to celebrate, too. 🎉

4 participants graduated.
5 new participants were accepted.
Participants with income have an average savings of $1,340.47.

We're proud of the work happening in Rise & Rebuild, and we're excited to start giving you a little more of a look at it each month.

13 people moved into housing in July!

That's 13 people who worked toward a goal and reached it. Some got there pretty quickly. For others, it took months of working, saving, filling out applications, waiting, hitting roadblocks and trying again.

And that's the part a number can't really show.

We get to see the work that happens before someone gets the keys. We see the good days and the hard ones. We see the applications, the saving, the waiting, the disappointment when something doesn't work out. Then we get to see the moment when it finally does.

Last month, we got to see that happen 13 times.

We're so proud of them.

And we want to keep being here for moments like these.

One of the best ways you can help us do that is by becoming a monthly supporter. Monthly gifts give us something we can count on and help us continue doing this work, day after day, month after month.

If The Rolla Mission is something you believe in, would you consider joining us as a monthly supporter?

We couldn't do what we do without a community that believes in this Mission. Thank you for continuing to be part of it.
