Special Olympics MO LETR Region 6

Special Olympics MO LETR Region 6 If you would like to support our efforts in raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics Missouri The vision of the LETR was brought to life by Col. Col.

Ralph Biele of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He and the MO Police Chiefs' Association decided to rally all law enforcement to hold a fundraiser for Special Olympics - and the rest is sort of history. What began in 1986 as a 30-mile run is now a four-day relay covering more than 950 miles with 1,000 runners. It originates in more than 40 locations and culminates at the site of the State Summer

Games. But, it's more than a run; the Torch Run is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. The mission of the LETR is to raise both dollars and awareness for Special Olympics. Nearly 200 agencies and 6,400 officers work year-round in Missouri to accomplish this goal; they are some of our greatest volunteers. Biele once said, "A lot of people get involved with Special Olympics because they feel they need to give something back. I have found that I have gained and learned more from these Special Olympics athletes than I could ever give or teach them." In 1986, the LETR raised $15,000 and in 2011 they raised $2,284,888 ranking them No. 7 in the world for funds raised. All funds raised go toward supporting Special Olympics Missouri's year-round sports training.

Our anticipated time of arrival at Colton’s will be 11:00 a.m. Big shout out to Colton’s, who will be feeding all the runners after the event!
The Torch Run is one event, of many, that law enforcement officers participate in to raise awareness and funds for SOMO. We are proud to carry the flame of hope that all individuals with intellectual disabilities will be treated equally and given very opportunity available to achieve success!

Thinking about where to go out for dinner tonight in Rolla? We are having our Law Enforcement Torch Run Tip-A-Cop fundraising event for Special Olympics Missouri tonight, November 3, 2016, from 5 to 9 PM. Officers from MSHP-Troop I, Rolla PD, and Missouri S&T Police have once again, partnered with Colton’s Steak House & Grill and Alex’s Pizza for this very worthy cause. Officers will be paired with restaurant servers to help meet and greet customers, help take & deliver drink and food orders, and to interact and mingle with restaurant guests. Customers are encouraged to “tip the cop” for their service in the form of a tax deductible donation, 100% of which will go to Special Olympics Missouri, in addition to the customary tip left for the restaurant’s server for his or her service. The officers donate their time to raise awareness and funds for SOMO and expect nothing for themselves in return. I want to invite and encourage everyone to come on out tonight. Thank you for the support!
