Rokeby Patrol Deputy Morrissey just reported a collision at SW 27th and West Rokeby Road. Preliminary investigation would lead us to conclude someone failed to yield at the stop sign, and some of our Rokeby Road neighbors, who had the right of way, were the innocent victims the other driver's failure to stop. No reports of serious injuries at this time.

ACCIDENT UPDATE: Unconfirmed reports have come in to the Rokeby Police and Patrol headquarters indicating the driver that failed to yield also failed to pass a sobriety test, and there was an alcohol bottle found in the car. Additionally, it's been reported that a passenger in the car that had the right of way was returning home from physical therapy from a recent surgery and might have become re-injured. We understand alcoholism is an addiction that afflicts many and is difficult to conquer, but there is no excuse for driving drunk and putting other people's lives at risk.

Don't forget to wear your seat belts, pay attention to stop signs, and practice safe physical distancing - with your body AND your car.

Couple guys decided to take on Rokeby Road, but Karma stepped in and the truck ended up in the ditch in the only place where there's a culvert and a big hole that engulfed the entire front end, so much that the rear wheels are off the ground. I don't know who the truck belongs to, but I do know he's gonna need something substantial to get it out.

One disadvantage of country life is inconsiderate people using our rural neighborhood for dumping, but there's good news to report from the Rokeby Police and Patrol Academy. Two different dumpers have been busted in just the last month. We're not providing names at this point out of consideration for their families, but in the two recent dumping cases both sets of dumpers are on facebook and both are business owners. You'd think such people would be a bit more respectful, right? Wrong. Every dumper we've ever caught was a person of means - for instance, one dumper had a fancy show-truck that participates in car shows; another was an executive with a large insurer; one lives in a fancy home in the Knolls; one dumper operates a trucking / hauling company. If you want to do some racial profiling, consider this: Every dumper, trespasser and vandal we've caught in the last 12 or so years was Caucasian and well above poverty level.

After using Rokeby Road as their personal playground in this unlicensed truck these guys apparently didn't want to be photographed. If you see this truck driving around give the driver a swift kick in the rear end and the book "Motor Tuning for Dummies" because it's only running on half the cylinders. In spite of the poorly tuned motor it did leave a surprisingly dark streak of rubber in front of the Trinity Chapel Church.

Deputy Jones is wearing the approprate attire for patrol duty. Don't mess with southwest Lancaster County friends because Deputy Jones doesn't take prisoners, he feeds them to his cats.

BULLETIN: Attention travelers to southwest Lancaster County. The closing of West Denton Road has caused an increase of traffic on Rokeby Road creating extraodinarily high traffic counts, dusty conditions and rough roads. To alleviate the rough roads the county has been grading the road every other day. The Lancaster County Engineer's office was contacted regarding the failure to provide a proper detour (the recommended detour route to Lincoln for those living south of West Denton Road is as much as 10 miles or more). When contacted the County Engineer said he's received numerous complaints, but refuses to adjust the detour route because "people just ignore those signs anyway". The Rokeby Patrol members have actively lobbied the County Engineer and Commissioners to open up an intersection (preferably SW 12th and West Denton Road) to allow traffic to safely commute to Lincoln or proceed across Highway 77 where there are traffic signals to avoid the hazards associated with the dangerous conditions created by rushed drivers on an unfamiliar gravel road.

ROKEBY PATROL UPDATE: Rokeby Patrol deputy Kevin Jochum catches midnight metal thieves! Last month Kevin was pulling into his driveway one night and discovered a strange pickup alongside his driveway loaded with metal, tires and other materials that had been in storage in Kevin's barn. When Kevin approached, the truck's owner came out of the darkness and claimed he had permission to haul off the items, which didn't help his credibility with the owner of the barn and materials who by this time was getting a bit irate. Turns out the ring leader ran off leaving the truck owner behind (who claimed initially he was acting alone), but the Sheriff didn't waste any time getting to the bottom of the situation. They discovered the thefts were orchestrated by a crew of guys hauling stuff out of the Jochum barn and made as many as 5 trips to the metal recycler with Kevin's goods. The Lancaster County Sheriff is still on the case and they've discovered a lot of other items that had been hauled into the recycler that didn't belong to Kevin, so check out your barns and iron piles Rokeby neighbors.

Here's a photo from a few years back of couch dumper caught red-handed by one of our own at the Rokeby Patrol. Because the dumper saw the photographer and drove off before getting the couch out of the truck there was nothing the sheriff could do. This photo was taken on West Rokeby Road between SW 27th and SW 40th. Anyone know this guy?

Deputy Cropsey on duty! Newest patrol member Jonathan Cropsey followed a suspicious vehicle up Rokeby Road and south down South 1st Street, where it pulled into a field. Cropsey casually drove past while the driver exited the vehicle and stood by the box. Deputy Cropsey then turned his vehicle around and the suspect decided he'd better split. Cropsey saw a small pile of branches where the vehicle was sitting, called the sheriff's office to report the dumping, and there happened to be a deputy nearby to continue pursuit. We don't know how the event concluded, but the pile of branches is now gone. Thanks Jonathan!

It should be noted that about 2 weeks ago Jonathan put out a prairie fire on his father's farmstead near the Rokeby Patrol headquarters. Jonathan is our nominee for Deputy of the Month.
