Monroe's Mighty Mission is a 501(c)(3) volunteer based, grassroots, incorporated nonprofit working to meet the needs of animals throughout our community so those needs do not become the reason for surrender or abandonment. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to help! The Inspiration behind Monroe's Mighty Mission:
On September 8, 2013, Jennifer Land noticed a little dog wandering on an old, country road in a rural area of Spartanburg County. The road was named Monroe Road. Away from homes and people, Jennifer knew that this little dog was alone and needed help. Monroe, being stray and feral, was difficult to catch. She was dirty, hungry, hurt and scared. Jennifer learned over the course of the next 8 days that the dog she had now dubbed "the little Monroe dog" had been out there for a very long time all by herself. How she got there though, no one will ever truly know. Potentially the victim of abandonment, she was distraught and wary of anyone who approached her. Jennifer visited her multiple times daily for over a week trying to gain an ounce of trust. She would talk to "the little Monroe dog" and try to feed her waiting for just one moment the dog may let down her guard. With the temptation of bologna too strong for the little dog to resist, Jennifer finally snatched her off the streets on September 15, 2013. In the time that has passed since that day, Monroe and Jennifer have become quite a pair. They have made considerable adjustments to each other. Monroe has mostly overcome her feral ways and has learned to be social with people and other animals. And Jennifer has learned what life is like for an untrained, unsocialized puppy. Each day now brings them both lots of joy and, with all the love and attention she receives, Monroe has beaten what could have been insurmountable odds. Monroe is a happy, healthy, small, 13.5 lbs., schnauzer/terrier mix who loves stuffed animals and sleeping cuddled close beside Jennifer. Jennifer is an avid animal lover and has been helping stray animals her entire life. Now, being inspired by little Monroe (and others she's helped over the years), Jennifer is expanding her efforts in order to help more animals than possible on her own. With your help, more animals can be given the medical care they need and remain in the homes where they are loved. By meeting the needs of the animals, we will help decrease the numbers of animals who are surrendered or left abandoned. We are working to keep as many as possible from having the life Monroe had before she was found or worse. It is Jennifer's hope that Monroe's rescue story inspires others and helps lead people to a deeper understanding of the problems our companion animals face. From homelessness to cruelty and neglect. By helping our four-legged friends, she knows we will help people as well. There is no shortage of research confirming that animal companionship is good for the human soul.
