The Rocky Point Historical Society has published a patriotic, fictional children’s book, JESSE’S RIDE, funded by an America 250 Grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. This story was found in the files of Natalie Aurucci Stiefel, our previous president, after she passed away in October, 2025. It has been my honor to illustrate it, as she had planned, using enhanced vintage postcards and photos of local landmarks. Jesse Hulse, the 10-year-old boy who narrates the story, tells tales that span from the American Revolution to 1828 when his adventure begins. Books are $10 and are available at the Hallock Homestead Museum or may be ordered using the NEW Publication Order Form on our website: rockypointhistoricalsociety.org. — Annette Falcetta, Trustee

On Friday, May 22 we were so pleased to receive Hallock family descendants, Tom Tuthill, his sister, Anne Tuthill Polta, and her husband John Polta. Tom and Anne are Sylvester and Ina Hallock's grandchildren, as their parents were Frances Hallock and Samuel Tuthill, the couple that united two of the farming families of Rocky Point. Tom lives in New Hampshire and Anne and John live in Minnesota. They were given a complete tour of the house and gardens, followed by a Rocky Point luncheon in the Hallock Homestead parlor (heroes from DelFiore, cookies from Tildas, and Ken's sour cream coffee cake). They then visited family graves in the Noah Hallock cemetery and "Sylvester's barn" on Merritts Path, now a private residence. It was a pleasure to show them the expanding exhibits and displays including items made by their mother in the Needlecraft Room and the Shipwreck Room. We are grateful for their ongoing support of the museum.

Bayles Boat Shop in the Village of Port Jefferson, built a replica of the armed whaleboat type used by Caleb Brewster and the Culper Spy Ring on Long Island Sound during the American Revolutionary War. Yesterday was the official commemorative landing of the “Caleb Brewster” whaleboat at Harborfront Park. It was quite a sight to see and hear as the Regiment on shore fired their cannon at them and the whaleboat returned fire!
