If you have passed by lately you've seen that after many years the Hallock Homestead is getting a new coat of white paint. Thanks to Bill Suesser and his crew, Todd, Mike and Sam, the original cedar shingles were first hand scraped and lightly sanded and a few sections had to be patched up. The little shutters over the garrison windows and the hoist door on the north side have fresh "barn red" paint. Once the portico is done with new flooring and restored columns the museum will look great for another 100 years!

SCHOOL DAYS!
Today is the first day of school in Rocky Point. More than two hundred years ago local children attended Rocky Point's very first school, all grades in one room, in the little building which was located at the northeast corner of Rocky Point Landing Road and The Lane. It was built in 1813 when all communities in New York State were required to build a school to educate children. That building served the area students until 1861. It was later moved up to the Wading River Road (now 25A) and became the small home of John and Elizabeth Carr. John's parents Nancy and Stephen Carr lived in the farmhouse to the west, now occupied by Lend a Helping Hand. A larger one room schoolhouse was then built at the corner of Hallock Landing Road and Rocky Point Landing Road, where the fire department is now located. That building was used until the Joseph A. Edgar School was built in 1928. The second schoolhouse (shown here) was moved to Hallock Lane and incorporated into a home. Two more schools, Frank J. Carasiti Elementary and Rocky Point High School were built in Rocky Point, a community which values education. Have a great year! (See captions)
