A strong local food system is built by the members of a community.

It happens when communities choose to support local farmers, local businesses, community gardens, food makers, and neighborhood markets.

Every time we shop local, visit a farmers market, support a food entrepreneur, or invest in community food projects, we help create a food system that is more connected, resilient, and rooted in care for one another.

Local food systems help keep money circulating in our communities, create jobs, improve access to fresh food, preserve farmland, and strengthen food security for future generations.

This work matters everywhere, but especially here in Eastern North Carolina where agriculture has always been deeply connected to our communities, culture, and economy.

Support local food. Support local farmers. Support community.

| Community food work can often feel isolated, especially in rural communities. Gatherings like this are important because they bring together farmers, gardeners, organizers, educators, nonprofits, childcare leaders, food businesses, and community members to share ideas, resources, and real solutions that strengthen local food systems across the region.

Whether you are already involved in food access, farming, nutrition, education, or community organizing, this is an opportunity to learn, connect, and be part of larger conversations shaping our communities.

Topics like food justice, local economies, community care, regional collaboration, and equitable access to food impact all of us. Events like this help build relationships, spark new partnerships, and remind us that local efforts can create regional change.

We’re excited to see partners and neighbors from across the Northeast region coming together right here in Rocky Mount.
