It's September yall! This month we recognize Cindy Newby.

Cindy started her EMS career back in 1988 in Ohio.
Cindy was able to put herself through nursing school working as a paramedic. Once she graduated from Kent State University and passed her boards, she got a job in the ER at Roanoke Community Hospital and moved to Franklin County. Cindy says the best thing was moving to Virginia. She started Ferrum Rescue back in 2000 and was there till about 2010. Cindy joined Franklin County Rescue Squad in 2025. Cindy says she loves being able to take care of her friends and neighbors and the challenge of giving care in the field. She loves the community in Franklin County and she thinks she is now considered to be a Dam Yankee because this is her home and she loves giving back to the community she lives in!!!
Thank you Cindy for your years of expertise you bring to the squad! Thank you for all you've done for the citizens of Frankin County.

First White Coat Ceremony complete! (E&H PA Program does a short coat ceremony prior to first year patient contacts to solidify expectations and to honor the hard work and dedication these students are putting forth.)

It is with profound sadness that I make this post. Jeff was a dedicated and life member of Franklin County Rescue Squad for 50 years. He taught so many of us at this squad and what was most call a " father figure" . He served as Captain of our Junior Squad and also as Captain of the Senior Squad. His dedication was something most of us wont see today. Please keep Jeff's family and also Squad 2 in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come. Go fly high Jeff, FCRS will take it from here! 🚑💙

Yall.... it's August! This year is flying by! This month we recognize Mason Moffett. Mason is a full time Ferrum College student that gives of his time while he's at school.

Mason got his EMT in July of 2025 and joined squad 2 in January of 2026. Mason says he joined because he wanted a direct path to hands-on healthcare where he felt like he could really make a difference, and the rescue squad could fit into his school schedule. Mason says he's proud to be able to help people in his community, and the experiences he's had at the rescue squad have made him want to pursue rural/community-based medicine. Mason plans to go to medical school. There are multiple specialties that he can see himself doing, but trauma surgery and emergency medicine is definitely one of them.

Thank you Mason for your time, dedication and commitment to not only Franklin County Rescue Squad but the citizens of Franklin County.

Tonight we all came together to honor Jeff Hodges. Jeff joined FCRS in 1977 and has been a pivotal member since. He has taught so many of us in not only Franklin County but many counties surrounding us. Jeff is fighting pancreatic cancer and while his health is declining, his spirit is still shining!! We thank you Jeff for all you've done over the years for not only FranklinCounty RescueSquad but the citizens of Franklin County.

Can yall believe it's July already??!!

This month we recognize Erin Carwile.

Erin joined in January of this year. Erin says she joined because she enjoys helping those in need. Erin plans to become an Occupational Therapist. Erin has finished her EMT course and is waiting to test. She wants to tell the public to stay safe.
