We are beyond grateful for the incredible generosity of Farm Credit! Not only did they bless Fostering Champions with a financial donation, but they also went above and beyond by collecting an overwhelming amount of personal care items through their Blessing Baskets!

DONOR SPOTLIGHT | Sheila & Kevin Kassner

Meet Sheila and Kevin Kassner, whose heart for young people aging out of foster care began thousands of miles away from Virginia.

While living in Kazakhstan, Sheila and Kevin worked with an NGO that supported a local home for teens who were aging out of the foster care system at just 16 years old. Through that experience, they saw firsthand how even simple support could help set a young person up for success.

“These bright young adults needed a bit of support in various areas to set them up to succeed.”

Years later, after returning to the United States and eventually making Virginia home, they began searching for a way to get involved locally. That search led Sheila to Fostering Champions—and to an early 8 a.m. knock on Dell and Bobby Canipe’s door!

As Sheila and Kevin put it, Winnie the Pooh said it best: “I knew when I met you an adventure was going to happen.”

They quickly discovered that the challenges they had witnessed in Kazakhstan were also affecting young adults here at home. Fostering Champions’ mission felt like a natural continuation of something they already cared deeply about.

Of all the areas we serve, housing and life skills are especially meaningful to them.

“Housing is so fundamental for someone to feel secure and safe.”

They also recognize that many of the everyday skills young adults typically learn from their families—budgeting, decision-making, and navigating adulthood—can be strengthened through the support of an encouraging mentor.

For Sheila and Kevin, investing in our Champions isn’t only about changing one young person’s life. It strengthens our entire community.

“Young people have so much to offer our community, especially if we set them up for success and support them in making good decisions.”

They leave us with a quote from Nelson Mandela that beautifully sums up why they choose to invest in the next generation:

“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow!”

DONOR SPOTLIGHT | Dave & Libby Pearsall

We are excited to introduce our very first Fostering Champions Donor Spotlight: Dave and Libby Pearsall!

Dave and Libby first learned about Fostering Champions in April 2024 at CrossPointe Church, when Pastor Canipe shared how God had called him to serve young adults aging out of foster care.

Serving others has always been important to them. Over the years, they have volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, volunteer firefighter, and with organizations like Chesapeake Care Free Clinic and Bedford Free Ride. So when they learned about our mission, they said, “God immediately spoke to our hearts!”

Two things especially connected them to Fostering Champions: our foundation in Christ and education.

“First and foremost, you are a Christian organization, with God at the forefront! After that, EDUCATION! We are firm believers that ‘Knowledge is Power!’”

Dave and Libby believe providing young adults with opportunities to pursue an education or learn a trade can help give them the foundation to build independent futures. They also love that supporting Fostering Champions means investing right here at home.

“Because Fostering Champions is a local organization, you can actually see the results of your contributions in action!”

Their heart for our Champions is beautifully reflected in the verse they chose:

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

This verse reminds us that circumstances that may seem impossible to us are never beyond what God can do. Through people like Dave and Libby, we get to see God provide opportunities, resources, love, and support that can help change the trajectory of a young person’s life.

Dave and Libby, thank you for saying yes when God spoke to your hearts, for investing in our Champions, and for helping us be the hands and feet of Jesus. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Fostering Champions family!

We are incredibly grateful to Joyous Junque for selecting Fostering Champions as one of 27 local charities to receive proceeds from their 2026 Joyous Junque Sale!

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, shopper, and supporter who makes Joyous Junque possible. Your hard work and generosity extend far beyond the sale itself and directly support organizations like ours as we continue walking alongside young adults who have aged out of foster care.

A huge thank you to Serenity for generously donating the cabinets for our Martinsville Champion Home!

Every detail of this home is coming together because of businesses and community partners who believe in our mission and the young adults we serve. These cabinets are more than a beautiful addition to the house. They are helping us create a welcoming, functional space that our Champions can truly call home.

We are so grateful to Serenity for investing in this home and helping us get one step closer to opening its doors!

What an incredible Day of Action we had last Friday!

We are so grateful to the Henry County and Martinsville United Way and every volunteer who spent the day serving at our Martinsville Champion Home. From working on the exterior to cleaning up inside, these volunteers showed what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

Every hour given and every project completed brings this home one step closer to welcoming young adults who are transitioning out of foster care into a place of stability, support, and opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped move this home forward. Your time, hard work, and willingness to serve are making a lasting difference in the lives of our future Champions.

🔥🙌 I AM BACK — FOR A LITTLE WHILE! 🙌🔥

Four years ago, I stepped away from Franklin Heights Student Ministry to follow God’s call on my life. 🙏❤️ God was leading me to start Fostering Champions 🏠💙 and serve foster teens throughout our community.

What an incredible four years it has been! 🙌

I’ve watched God open doors 🚪, provide homes 🏡, bring incredible people together 🤝, and change lives ❤️ as we’ve walked alongside young people who simply needed someone in their corner.

But now… God is giving me the opportunity to come back home! 🏠🔥

For a short while, I’ll be returning to Franklin Heights Student Ministry to help fill in, preach the Word 📖, encourage our students 🙌, and serve the amazing teenagers of our church.

AND I’M EXCITED! 🔥🔥🔥

There’s something special about student ministry. 💯 These are years when young people are making decisions that can shape the rest of their lives.

More than anything, I want them to know:

✝️ Jesus is REAL.
❤️ Jesus LOVES them.
🔥 Jesus is WORTH FOLLOWING.

Four years ago, God called me out to serve foster teens. 🏠💙

Now, for this season, He’s giving me the opportunity to serve the students at Franklin Heights again. 🙏

🔥 Same Jesus.
🎯 Same Mission.
❤️ Same Heart for the Next Generation.
