Maybe that’s part of why her story has always felt so at home here in Patrick County—a place where mountain roots run deep, neighbors still look out for neighbors, and we believe in giving our children every chance to grow into whatever dreams are waiting for them.

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, that belief became something beautifully simple: a book in the hands of a child.

Month after month, children right here in Patrick County open their mailboxes to find a book with their name on it—a story to read at bedtime, a world they haven’t explored yet, and perhaps the beginning of a lifelong love of reading.

PLEASE SHARE: Virginia families still have time to apply for SUN Bucks, a summer nutrition benefit that helps eligible families purchase groceries while school is out.

Eligible families can receive $120 for each eligible school-aged child to help purchase nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy and meat.

More than 628,000 Virginia children have already received SUN Bucks, but thousands of eligible children may still qualify.
The deadline to apply is August 31, 2026.

Families can apply online, submit a paper application by mail, or call the SUN Bucks Call Center at 866-513-1414, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We are so grateful to Elisabet’s family for honoring her memory by giving back to the children in our community. Thank you for your generosity and for helping ensure local students have the supplies they need for a successful school year.

This visit was especially meaningful as we remembered Elisabet, who spent 10 years of her career at STEP and whose love for children and education left a lasting impact on our organization and the families we serve.
