The Moosehead Lake Fisheries Coalition came into existence to help rebuild the fishery in Moosehead Lake. In the 90’s and early 2000s millions of smelt were introduced and brooks were cleared to improve spawning areas. This past few years the fishing has been excellent. Those original members are aging brook cleaning is tough work. We now work to study smelt issues trying to figure out some determining factors in smelt reproduction. Through our entire operations it has been the membership that makes our programs successful please consider joining the noble cause today. Moosehead Lake Coalition.org. Thank you

I would like to thank all of you that have visited and like our page. In an effort to improve communications to our members and the public we are creating a new website with a blog and a place to share fish photos and stories. Stay tuned looks like late June or early July. This is what happened last week when the released fish didn't dive quite quick enough, breakfast for the eagle family

The invasive species derby has concluded. Although the turnout was lighter then expected, the participants had fun and removed some bass. The controversy generated certainly gave us exposure, brought forth some great sponsorship so we're hoping the next one draws more participants and the prize money will be much larger. Thanks to all participants, sponsors and volunteer help

The derby on Sunday June 14 has certainly generated some comments. A 1 day bass derby to remove some bass and perch nearly melted my phone and computer. Yet a 3 day tournament to reduce the lake trout population got not 1 comment. They're both sport fish I wonder where the so called conservatives were then. Well this has been an enlightening few days. Thanks everyone and good luck fishing
