Hi, y’all! There is some news here on the growing season front. I know some of y’all have noticed we are not posting like we usually do. To be honest, it is at a standstill of sorts.
We didn’t plant out onions or lettuce earlier this year due to the health of one of our family members. Knowing this, we knew we had to prioritize our time towards our family. But as time went on, we realized it would continue to be something that would require more from us, and there was only so much time in a day.
A few months into this year, we talked with the local food pantry we support. They do have enough fresh food between North Texas Food Bank and a grant they will be getting for fresh food in particular.
Because there aren’t a lot of other food pantries around here to support like this, we decided to take this year to re-evaluate where this nonprofit is going. Trust the path will form in front of us once again. Our board is all on board, so to speak.
We have talked to our monthly donors, we felt that was a necessary discussion and we were surprised when they ALL chose to continue to support our mission of fresh responsibly grown food. Even if we don’t know the next step yet.
We have always dreamed of a public space where everyone can enjoy the garden and volunteer, if they’d like, but as prices soar in our area, this becomes less and less of a viable option.
In the meantime? I planted out the garden for our family, essentially. Obviously, not using Food and Grace money, but our own personal funds. There are far more flowers to keep our local insects happy, and require much less time from us. But there are a few veggie plants sprinkled about.
If you’d like to follow along on posts I make about the birds, insects, garden and general wonderment, you can follow on instagram.
We’ll post more when we know more of where we are headed. 🌱
